Heads up! August's full Sturgeon Moon 🌝 reaches its peak this Sunday morning,

August 22, 2021. So, be sure to look up both Saturday and Sunday nights! Learn why this month's Moon has its peculiar name & more Moon facts and lore...🌝

August’s full Moon will first appear on the night of Saturday, August 21, before reaching peak illumination at 8:02 A.M. Eastern Time on Sunday, August 22. On either of these nights, look toward the southeast after sunset to catch a glimpse of the Sturgeon Moon rising.

the new moon as the faintest crescent last week. I was traveling westbound for a couple hours last Wednesday and was able to watch it set. I rarely get to see it that soon after the new moon, Venus was not far away and there were a few clouds to capture the color changes. Other than having the sun blinding me, it was a nice sight to watch out in the wide open landscape of eastern Montana.

And it was not quite as hot as it had been. My friend asked me to help him check out an antique car he was interested in and to drive his vehicle back home if he bought it so he could drive it home. It's a two hour jaunt from home, all interstate. I have a knack for spotting problems that could be deal breakers. I flat out told him he couldn't buy the car, he couldn't have driven it back, not roadworthy, so I told him he couldn't buy it. He listened and was glad I did that by the time we got back on the freeway. He would have bought it if I wasn't there.

Last Feb I went to central MN to go fetch a restored vehicle he had already purchased. We rented a trailer to haul it back, made the round trip in 54 hours and that was with two hotel stays. Ask an old road warrior like me to go on a mission, I don't mess around, I get there and back quick as I can.

And that's how I ended up seeing the new moon as a very faint crescent.
