This has been building all week, with the wind gusting, lights blinking on and off until finally the darkness enveloped us, leaving us with only the sound of the wind and rain hitting the windows.

The power was off about an hour and the City Light crews just got it back on as is their job when the rest of us are dry and cozy, they are wet and cold, and handling potentially lethal power lines that cannot be tamed by anyone else through the night. Hearing the fire trucks barreling up and down the avenues... but for now we're out of the darkness:

Darkness, Darkness ~ The Youngbloods

Darkness, darkness, be my pillow
Take my head and let me sleep
In the coolness of your shadow
In the silence of your deep

Darkness, darkness, hide my yearning
For the things I cannot be
Keep my mind from constant turning
Toward the things I cannot see now
Things I cannot see now
Things I cannot see

Darkness, darkness, long and lonesome
Ease the day that brings me pain
I have felt the edge of sadness
I have known the depth of fear

Darkness, darkness, be my blanket
Cover me with the endless night
Take away, take away the pain of knowing
Fill the emptiness of right now
Emptiness of right now, now, now
Emptiness of right now

Darkness, darkness, be my pillow
Take my hand and let me sleep
In the coolness of your shadow
In the silence, the silence of your deep

Darkness, darkness, be my blanket
Cover me with the endless night
Take away, take away the pain of knowing
Fill the emptiness of right now
Emptiness of right now, now, now
Emptiness of right

Darkness, darkness!
Emptiness, emptiness!
Oh yeah

As always, feeling fortunate to be out of the elements. Happy Holidays.

Still, isn't this coming from Hawaii?

We call that southerly flow with lots of rain and wind the Pineapple Express.

Has the weather been calm or windy and rainy there?

from my SO's sister's house. The family isn't sure their place is gonna make it thru the night...waves are unbelievable and wind is hurricane force.

That's the fourth house to wash away this week.

The family has lived with that erosion since the sixties, when the dad bought the first piece of property, literally miles from the beach, and then the kids gradually each got a place, too. Another (in-law) relative's house went down around Halloween this year.

I've been with my man for 21 years and that very first walk we took down to the beach from his sister's place was at least two miles. Now the beach isn't much more than twenty feet away. I had a weepy moment when I first saw that video from KOMO that I posted...that double-decker pink porch house was once such a nice place, a landmark to me for when I'd get lost out there. Memories aren't so easily washed away. Yes, wonderful memories.
