A-bomb museum to remove human replicas

The Yomiuri Shimbun

HIROSHIMA--The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum has decided to remove from display its life-sized plastic replicas of survivors just after the atomic bombing of the city.

The museum in Naka Ward, Hiroshima, will remove the replicas as part of a building renovation project to be completed over five years from the next fiscal year. It aims to update its exhibits to reflect a focus on real historical materials.

The figures, which illustrate the effects of the atomic bombing in graphic detail, will likely be removed in fiscal 2016.

According to the Hiroshima city government and other sources, mannequins wearing the clothing of atomic bombing survivors were first displayed in 1955, when the museum opened.

The more accurate they can make the museum the better. There was a lot of controversy over the Smithsonian Exhibit in the 90s.
