Learn the Top 15 Favorite Japanese Words (Chosen by Fans)

More beginning Japanese for beginners like me. In her usual charming style, Risa takes us through 15 Japanese words selected by viewers and adds a few of her own favorite words in at the end.

Atatakakunakatta. ( あたたかくなかった ). "not warm"

I tried saying that for something like 4 days before my tongue didn't trip itself three times trying!

Great video too. I like how she gave a different use for yoroshiku than what I'd heard before; the more synonyms I have for things, the easier it is to plug them into new sentences so I can sound like a mildly disturbed first grader!

I'm glad you liked the video. I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to Japanese. At this point, I like the videos featuring Risa because she's so entertaining. I wind up laughing at some of her silly gestures every time I watch her videos, no matter how often I've viewed them. And, after this video, I understand why Yui was saying "baka!" in response to some of Donald Trump's recent nonsense.

If you're at the sentence level, you're far ahead of me. I'm still just trying to learn a core vocabulary of words and some phrases. I hope to eventually progress to more challenging material--but for now, these videos with Risa are just my speed.

Time for bed here. Mata ne! (Maybe too informal? But it's all I know, so ... sumimasen!)

"wasn't it not warm?"

The っけ means that it a vague recollection.

It is also my understanding that if you add to the end of that a って to the end to show you are casually quoting or paraphrasing so that it becomes

あたた
暖かくなかったっけって

atatakakunakattakkette

&quot He/She/It) said 'wasn't it not warm'"

or (if I am not messing this up) alternatively

あたた
暖かくなかったってっけ

And painful! My head hurts now lol.

Think I need to get a bit farther in my studies before I try my hand at that (and I'll need to work up the courage, because that's downright daunting!), but thanks for pointing those out. Now to go hunt down a primer of sorts on those topics, mwahahahaha!
