Happy Chuseok 추석; 秋夕
Koreans around the world are celebrating Chuseok from Sep. 12 to Sep 14, the fall harvest celebration sometimes referred to as the Korean Thanksgiving. In South Korea, congested traffic and closed businesses are the norm as most Koreans seek to join their extended families for the long holiday.
When one gets back to the kyohang (hometown) or the parents place to meet with the extended family for the traditional ceremonies and lavish meals, one is sure to hear invasive questions, otherwise known as jansori (scold, nag, nitpick) from parents, in-laws, and others.
This jansori menu as it were was posted on twitter by JihyeLee on twitter:
The prices go up on the menu as the questions get worse:
Where do you think it would be good to attend college?
What is your class rank?
Are you in a relationship now?
When are you going to lose weight?
When will you graduate?
Are you finished getting ready for a job yet?
What is your pay at the company?
How much money have you saved?
Isn't it time to get married?
Isn't it time for you to have a child?
