2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBetween the Vitriolic hate so many democrats have for Clinton..
Which is certainly not in low supply on D.U.... and the manner in which the Oligarchs/Plutocrats will fill the airways with nonsense concerning Bernie Sanders ties to Marxism if he gets the nomination. We are setting ourselves up with s scenario for a right wing complete take over our govt..from the State Legislatures to the Supreme Court..
AND THIS SCARES THE HOLY SHIT OUT OF ME..
How about toning down the hate guys!!

(22,308 posts)I see them most every day. Sometimes more than one.
I really don't think anyone cares about that anymore. This "Socialist" President did one hell of a job fixing a broken economy and his "Socialist" health care reform has worked far better than advertised.
I think the same social forces are at work in the aftermath of the Great Recession that were at work after the Great Depression (even though to a lesser degree). We, as a society, are ready to move away from unrestricted capitalism. Running a proud Democratic Socialist now is the right thing to do. He has been winning that argument for over 30 years. He isn't about to lose it to Trump or Cruz or Rubio.
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)Sanders has already called for" Medicare for Everyone
And taxing the Rich at a higher rate!
Right?
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)Why would this validate their fears?
Politifact's numbers say that Bernie's plan saves a median of ~ $100.00 a month compared to what people are paying now, and it covers EVERYONE!
You can't run away from winning issues because some haters will scream about it. Increased taxes for the wealthy and single payer are winning issues.
Besides, it was Hillary who just proposed a 4% surtax on higher incomes, not Bernie.
notadmblnd
(23,720 posts)And what would be wrong with Medicare for all? Perhaps some feel it would be beneath them? Not to worry, the elite will still be able to purchase designer insurance.

(3,111 posts)Believe me, I know it's hard to believe in the midst of the relentless barrage of shit we've been fed since the days of Raygun.
What's the solution, what's the panacea? The TRUTH. That's what Bernie is telling, in most cases. That is why his message is getting through. The truth and an authentic adherence to principles.
I myself never thought Bernie would probably get this far. But I've long believed that someone of principle could take elections in this country and lead the people in a heartbeat. I am so proud and so glad that this is proving to be true.
The polls, the public outpouring, even in the midst of virtual media silence, the donations, all in support of what Bernie stands for. What more does it take to encourage faith? What more does it take to encourage doing the right thing and supporting this candidate all the way and continuing to support him after he is elected.

(80,708 posts)No one has forced her to do that, as far as I can tell, although it begs the question as to whether she's capable of anything else.
She could have come out and earned the support of people in the party with intelligent statements and bold, forward-thinking policy proposals, instead we've gotten things like "I have ties to wall st. because 9-11", "we need to censor the internet and not worry about 'free speech etc', while we pursue a mathematically impossible backdoor so no one can encrypt their iphones" and lastly, "Bernie Sanders wants to take away your health insurance".
Her buddy Debbie Wasserman Schultz- who, like it or not, is closely affiliated with her in the minds of the party rank and file, goes to the NY Times and insults Millennial voters while offering up a completely incoherent stew of tired reefer madness tropes, in the process of defending laws that put people in prison for using marijuana, never mind that a majority of Americans - and a CLEAR majority of Democrats - favor legalization.
Hillary and her proxies have insulted the intelligence of the people whose support her campaign needs, at every turn. Treating the voters like a bag of barely-sentient carrots is not a winning strategy.

(11,785 posts)Vitriolic hate and utter disdain aren't the same thing. If nothing else, HRC's politically-motivated about-face on healthcare deserves all the criticism it's getting, as does her "cut it out" stance on financial reform. Hillary chose those positions. It's up to her to defend them. I'm not going to look the other way and pretend she's doing anything remotely acceptable just now "because Supreme Court!!!!"

Btw, the Republicans are going to regret calling it Obama Care. It will succeed and like the NHS become a National Treasure, Nye Bevan must be spinning in his grave. If it had been called Bevancare the Tories would never have been able to claim they support it, and wouldn't have won so many elections.

(30,247 posts)I remember that Obama was treated as if he couldn't do any wrong in 2008. Once he was in office and it became clear that he was a middle of the road Democrat, the trashing started in earnest. The same people are now touting Sanders as the savior of the nation. If he were to become president, he would eventually be trashed too. Why? Because Congress is far more conservative now than it was when Obama became president. What's Sanders going to do, talk them to death about income inequality? The Tea Party crowd in the House will laugh in his face. Expect non-stop gridlock for the foreseeable future.

(30,247 posts)but the high expectations of many here are way over the top. I expect even fiercer attacks on him than what Obama had to go through. Sanders is more dogmatic and will be frustrated when he can't accomplish what he set out to do. The House will stop his agenda every time. The Tea Party crowd is just as dogmatic as he is. I don't expect much to be accomplished, at least not while the TP bunch is in the majority.

(15,713 posts)Hate nope. I have seen many Democratic Party candidates that could have been placed in the "Hatable" category. Take Orval Faubus, Lester Maddox, George Wallace all good solid Democratic Party people. How about the Daleys in Chicago? There are many that fit. Hillary, Bernie and Martin just do not fit into that category.
As happened in the '60's there is a fight for the soul of the party. Does the party stay conservative or does it more to the left a little bit.
So we are again at one of those y's in the road. Does the party want to take the road to a more populist route or does it want to take the good old well traveled road with the business folk guiding us down their path.
It is up for the voters again to decide.
But hating the other candidate, no reason for that. The primaries will tell everyone who the people and which road the nation wants to travel.

(99,710 posts)It's an echo chamber where folks have their own views shouted back at them and consequently think everybody thinks like them.
The latest ABC-WAPO Poll shows HRC with a 84-15% favorable/unfavorable ratings among Democrats and a 92% favorable rating among non-white Democrats. The latter are Barack Obama favorable like numbers:
...
Clinton still outpaces Sanders across all demographic subgroups of Democrats most notably, non-whites (92 percent favorable) and liberals, with whom 88 percent rate Clinton positively and 74 percent say the same of Sanders. But Clinton's advantage in favorable ratings is clearest among moderate and conservative Democrats, among whom 80 percent give Clinton favorable marks but only 41 percent rate Sanders positively.
