(20,043 posts)This describes me. Except I don't attack--I try to discuss. We all have our preferred candidate, I won't beat down another candidate to try and make mine look better. Why in would I do that--isn't that what the repukes are doing? I'm happy to discuss things, but some people--yep democrats don't know the difference But that's their choice.
Every chance they get on a debate stage, on the campaign trail, during an interview, they do it. Why in the heck would I join that chorus?
No, I don't agree with everything from all our candidates. But eventually one will be our nominee, and I will not have participated in helping to beat them down.
I understand that's just my personal choice. But that's where I stand.

(82,383 posts)Oh the drama! No, the Hillary campaign will not suddenly one day vaporize over something someone needs the smelling salts for.

(23,156 posts)thing over single payer, including bringing Chelsea in to lie, is that if Hillary makes the mistake of doubling down on this, she'll be almost totally destroyed by many who were otherwise in her camp.
I think an awful lot of what we're seeing in Hillary's campaign is her complete disengagement with ordinary people. It seems to start with her claim they left the White House totally broke, but it goes at least as far back as when they entered the WH, and probably dates to their first or second term of Bill's governorship. It's not entirely their fault. A governor is insulated from a lot of real life, and a President vastly more so. But after the WH they didn't return to normal life. Hillary became a Senator, and I suppose she has continued to have SS protection the whole time. Then they proceeded to make millions and millions of dollars, and neither one has driven a car in years. They don't ride a public bus or a subway.
They don't have to fret that their 401k will be good enough to supplement Social Security. They don't have to worry about paying all their bills. They don't have to pass on buying needed prescription meds. And so on.
They are insulated in ways they cannot fathom at this point. And it shows. It will continue to show and probably only get worse.

(63,084 posts)What congressional miracle do people expect to happen in Nov 16 that will grant the president a legislature willing to back single-payer?
Certainly nothing visible on the horizon suggests that this is likely, yet we're told again and again that Clinton's stance on single-payer is enough to derail her candidacy.
What exactly might President Sanders do to achieve single-payer?
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)It never has been. I still feel betrayed by Obama that he took it completely out of consideration at the very beginning.
The ACA is better than nothing, but it still has a lot of flaws. Many of us have considered it (the ACA) just the first step on the way to true Universal Health Care.
I keep on being rather amazed at those here who completely dismiss any possibility of single payer or universal health care (not necessarily the same thing). Are you all Republicans who simply don't give a shit about anyone else? WHY NOT try for it? Plus, if a President Sanders actually has a Democratic House and Senate, anything could happen.
With Hillary? She'll just knuckle under to all the bullshit about how we can't afford it, while being happy to spend trillions of dollars on the military and more wars. Then she'll go along with cutting back on Social Security and Medicare -- those dastardly "entitlements", you know? while pushing for more and more tax cuts for the wealthy.

(63,084 posts)"They should do it for their constituents," you might argue. And perhaps they should, but what makes you think that that's likely to happen under mighty President Sanders?
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)for all citizens (like every other first world country on the planet) we should just go along with the status quo: multi-million dollar salaries for the CEOs, denial of benefits, medicines so expensive that many people don't even bother to fill their prescriptions, people going bankrupt from their medical bills. THAT'S better?
I see a Hillary Clinton Presidency rolling back at least some of the ACA, along with cutting back on Social Security and Medicare, all the better to fund our wars.
Just doing nothing is not a very good plan.

(19,926 posts)She's in this for the power and achievement. For the title. For the history books of being the first woman elected president.
It matters not to her what her platform is, it only matters if that platform will get her into the WH. It matters not who she maims and leaves behind, it matters only if her tactics get her into the WH.
I mean seriously, when a Dem is arguing against single-payer with teabagger lies it's pretty clear they have no ethics or compassion.

SheilaT
(23,156 posts)think she's entitled to the Presidency. She, and they, feel they played nice in 2008 (Ha! PUMAs, anyone?) and so now she DESERVES the nomination and the election. And, as you said, she will do or say anything to that end.

(19,926 posts)all of a sudden. Just like when Obama offered up SS, that was fine too. Scary. But that's what makes me think they are in here on a mission, not as regular, every day internet posters.

Sheesh.
But seriously, yes, she blew her campaign. She is doing exactly what people are sick of. Bernie is being fair, honest and energizing people by doing so.

(62,444 posts)Uh, the entire point of clickbait is to get people to click on a link.
There are some posters here at DU who do nothing other than to collect revenue by doing that sort of thing.
It is customary to provide some sort of summary of just what the fuck one might read at a link instead of simply posting "Hey, click this".
And, no, replying with "Hey, click this" is a bullshit response.

Fortunately, jberryhill is not a lesser person, so I'm sure that he won't draw any comparisons between your style and the style of, say, a clickbait troll.

(22,271 posts)but 3/4 of the article is fawning over HRH. Hillary Clinton's "political achievements?" WHAT political achievement? She's achieved NOTHING. That Senate seat was handed to her and the SOS position was the consolation prize for losing the nomination. And all she achieved was making multi-billion dollar hook ups for the MIC and her multi-national buddies. There was never any actual statesmanship so, what EXACTLY are her political achievements?
