2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCalling for new sanctions on Iran is officially the wheels coming off.
Calling an ad negative when it isn't was one precursor.
The dishonest attacks against a single payer system was a bigger one.
This really is it. The Democratic party is celebrating another huge diplomatic breakthrough, and the majority of the country with us, when Hillary immediately calls for reversing course.
The one bright spot is that this happened during the primaries (Thank You Bernie Sanders). We have the opportunity to avoid making this terrible candidate our nominee. Lets hope we make the most of that opportunity.

(62,325 posts)'strategists' thought they had the Dem base 'locked up' no matter what she did. According to what i read, they planned to go after Conservatives, and not worry about the base. Libs they decided would support her no matter what.
On what planet do this obscenely overpaid 'experts' come up with this stuff?
First, she can't win with just the base and by doing this today, what she hasn't already lost, she's likely to lose more.
But for them to think that Conservatives would EVER vote for a Clinton, are they ON something?

I think she still thinks she has this all wrapped up and the primary is just a formality.

(51,907 posts)Sanders will protect it, and Clinton will try to get rid of it. The people she is trying to appeal towith this approach will never vote for her under any circumstances, so why is she doing it?

(26,795 posts)So she has to go to the right to scare up more votes.

I gotta give Obama & Kerry some props on this deal,
and if they want to 'crow", I'll go along with it.

(22,308 posts)Because of the timing, I think this is the worst I have heard so far. We are all celebrating a victory and she says we need to get back on the path to defeat.
IMO, this was just flipping crazy.
Add in the no fly zone in Syria which she has been supporting and it is making it very hard to even take her candidacy seriously anymore.

(4,205 posts)She maybe figures she can get a lot of the Israeli vote, they hate the deal so might be kissing up there...won't help primary but might help GE, she has some misconceptions as to how good her odds are in the primary, doesn't want to believe she will lose...
Pretty much seems to be putting the cart before the horse..

(22,308 posts)when compared to electing the first Jewish American President?
IMO, this would be similar to trying to pull the African American vote to her in 2008.
To some Americans, Bernie has the same appeal that Barack had for others.
Old Codger
(4,205 posts)That I said "maybe", no I personally do not think she can pull the jewish vote, but that does not mean that she doesn't think she can.. Remember she is quite as deluded as many of her backers...
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)I guess to me it makes so little sense that I didn't even consider her being that delusional. I suppose that is a real possibility.

Nevertheless, it would still give Ted Cruz a real case of cogitative dissonance if she were to announce that she's signing the Cotton letter.. OTOH, that might not surprise me any more.

(26,582 posts)The new sanctions prevent 11 entities and individuals linked to the missile programme from using the US banking system.
The move came after international nuclear sanctions on Iran were lifted as part of a deal hailed by President Barack Obama on Sunday as "smart".
