Biden going after Bernie like the good "Establishment" VP he is.

Vice President Biden on Wednesday offered criticism of "socialism" during a speech abroad, seemingly a shot at Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist and Democratic candidate for president.

Biden made the remark in a keynote address at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, where he called for "a more progressive tax code" and a strengthening of the middle class.
"Keeping billions of dollars in offshore tax havens might be good for your shareholders, but it robs your own country," Biden told those in attendance at the international event.

Biden called on corporate executives to shift their tactics and put a greater emphasis on workers, saying a proportionate tax code was a component of restructuring to focus on long-term growth.

Establishment Joe. Willing to do anything to hold onto power.

Already to step in. Do they care what we think? NO, they do not.

Andrea Mitchell suggests if Hillary loses SC after losing NH and IA that the Democratic Party would start looking elsewhere. She suggests the only place to look would be the Vice President.

Ed Rendell replied like this: The VP by withdrawing by deciding not to run, held himself open to that contingency.

He goes to say that if Hillary Clinton has legal problems, he (Biden) is available.

He says if Hillary's legal problems continue, if Bernie wins SC on top of IA and NH it would mean a real race.

He further says they would have to see March 1 after the smoke clears. He says it's not likely to happen but it could be the eventuality and is certainly out there. By that I assume he means Biden would step in.

Harold Ford also spoke out on MSNBC about what might happen.

Instead of celebrating the rise of a new star, establishment Democrats are freaking out about the possibility of Bernie Sanders winning both Iowa and New Hampshire.

Case in point: former Tennessee congressman Harold Ford, Jr., who on MSNBC agreed with Joe Scarborough that establishment Dems could recruit John Kerry or Joe Biden to run if Bernie sweeps both early primary states.

SO...where are they going with this? Whose idea is it that Joe Biden is now free to step in if Bernie takes the 1st 3 states?

This is a test run, not a conspiracy.

The very idea of saving Biden in case he was needed later is sad. He's a good man, and he should not be even looking like he's going along with Ford, Rendell, and who ever else is doing it.

The primary is not over yet, may surprise us all either way.

But the fact they are sending up a test balloon and no one is contradicting them...speaks volumes about how they are feeling toward the left.

get in line? First if you are serious that what someone says on this site can in anyway decide your vote, then you don't know anything about the issues to begin with. I find that common among the general population but unusual on a political site.

Mock outrage? I assure you that many Bernie supporters are pissed as hell and can't understand how anyone could be fooled by Clinton let alone politically educated people. The outrage is real and the ass kissing ain't gonna happen. Go vote for Hillary. Just remember if you get it, that you caused it.

Nowhere does Biden mention Bernie's name and I am sure Biden is well aware that Bernie supports a progressive tax code. While he may consider himself a Democratic Socialist he is not looking to turn our economy into a purely socialist system.

From everything I have seen it appears Biden really likes Bernie, I really don't think he meant to aim this statement at him. The media is just looking to stir up controversy here, let's not fall for it.

Other popular Democrats who spoke out for the public's interest seem to have been, in effect, neutered by the party by giving them something else to do:

Howard Dean (&, btw, his effective 50-state strategy is ignored by party leadership, which is weird);

and just when Russ Feingold had established his own grass-roots PAC made up of ordinary people who admire his integrity & values, he's chosen as 'a special envoy to the Great Lakes region of Africa'.

/based on my own gut feeling.

Biden probably doesn't consider Sanders a socialist. Biden said earlier this month, "If Bernie Sanders never said he was a democratic socialist, based on what he's saying people wouldn't be calling him a democratic socialist."

Worldwide, "democratic socialism" usually means government ownership of the means of production plus free elections. Sanders' philosophy is usually called "social democracy." That's why the center-left party in Denmark is the "Social Democrats."
