Pacquiao likely to endorse Hillary Clinton

Pacquiao's longtime promoter Bob Arum said there is a possibility that Pacquiao would meet with Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in Las Vegas, Nevada on or about the third week of February.

Hillary and her husband, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, are known fans and supporters of Pacquiao. It is possible Clinton will ask Pacquiao to endorse her candidacy.

During her visit to the Philippines back in 2011 for a bilateral talks with President Aquino, Clinton disclosed she is a fan of Pacquiao.

“We know that Pacman had another great victory. I am a major Pacman fan," said Clinton after Pacquiao's victory over Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico.

Manny has a large Filipino following in the U.S. They vote in U.S. elections you know...

Also, a lot of boxing fans would listen to his words like in Nevada. He'said very beloved in the boxing world.

Hillary met with Bernice King too, many political figures have. Meeting with a person does not mean you embrace all of that person's positions.

Suggesting a bigot like Pacquiao should endorse the campaign is far different than meeting with a person.

My fiancee is from the Philippines as are many of my friends and many of them are gay or trans. They were upset when he made those remarks but happy when he walked them back.

I live in L A and he was even temporarily banned from the Grove for his comments.

The culture in the Philippines is Catholic and conservative but is getting better. You can even get a divorce!... One of my friend who is in a same sex marriage mom is a judge in the Philippines. She decided a case where she ruled a trans woman, who even after gender reassignment surgery, wasn't entitled to the legal benefits of a woman. I said WTF but that's what we're dealing with.

We have to win one heart and change one mind at a time.

He is a source of inspiration and revered by many Filipinos:

“It’s tough for one human being to be able to take on what Manny has, but I think, he’s not like any other person I’ve ever met…If you can imagine, the amount of discipline the guy has to be training for the past 20 years as hard as he has. That’s physically really taxing on your body. Still, to this day, I’ve never seen him as motivated for a fight with the heart he puts into it. Once he’s done boxing and puts that energy into something else, then he’s going to do great at it,” Ryan Moore, director of “Manny, a documentary released in January after five years in development, said. “The only person who knows when that time [comes] is Manny.” Pacquiao is a revered icon, representing and uplifting Filipinos internationally. Whenever he has a boxing match, the crime rate in the Philippines reportedly decreases and rebel groups cease fighting. Many believe that if he were to run for president, he would win. He doesn’t just fight for a title — he fights to bring the Philippines to the international forefront. His latest song, “Lalaban Ako Para Sa Filipino” (“I Will Fight for the Filipinos”), which will reportedly be his entrance song for the May 2 fight, articulates that sentiment. - See more at: http://asianjournal.com/aj-magazines/manny-mania-how-manny-pacquiao-became-the-peoples-champ/#sthash.vabUvff1.dpuf

Las Vegas has a huge Filipino population and his endorsement helped Harry Reid, himself a former boxer, hold off a challenge from Sharon Angle:

US Senate Majority Floor Leader and Bob Arum's friend Harry Reid has won his fifth term as Senator for the state of Nevada, after a fierce challenge from Republican candidate Sharron Angle.

Prior to Tuesday's polls, Senator Reid was uncertain about his chances for reelection, as challenger Sharron Angle threatened to pull away in several election survey results.

Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao, who recently arrived at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles from a four-week training in Baguio City in the Philippines, flew to Las Vegas last Thursday on invitation from his fellow politician and U.S. Senator Harry Reid.

Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum, who is a friend of Senator Reid, said it is important for Pacquiao to grace the occasion.

Arum told the Inquirer, in a phone interview, that Pacquiao’s presence at the Reid rally could influence a sizable Filipino-American community and help tilt the balance in favor of the Democratic Senate president, who has been facing the fight of his political life.
