But of course.
lary Rodham Clintons campaign took aim at her rival Bernie Sanders Middle East policies, saying they would leave Israel vulnerable.
Jake Sullivan, a foreign policy adviser to Clinton who also served with her when she was secretary of state, depicted as dangerous Sanders proposal to normalize relations with Iran, made during the most recent debate for Democratic presidential candidates.
Iran seeks the destruction of Israel, Iran is a leading sponsor of terror in the region, Iran is flouting international law with its
ballistic missile tests and its threats against our allies and partners, Sullivan said in a video the Clinton campaign posted to social media this week.
A clip in the Clinton video cut off Sanders, an Independent senator from Vermont, before he elaborated in the debate earlier this month that he did not advocate exchanging ambassadors and said that the United States should remain wary of Iran.
The candidates were commenting during the debate on the sanctions relief for nuclear rollbacks deal achieved last year between Iran and six major powers. Like President Barack Obama, the candidates back the deal, while the full slate of Republican candidates opposes it, as does Israels government.
Sullivan also focused on Sanders argument in an earlier debate, in November, that Muslim nations, including Iran, should contribute troops to combating the Islamic State.

(59,501 posts)This is as disgusting as the Republican Jewish groups that blasted Obama and Kerry as bad for Israel. The fact is IF Hillary wins, they will NOT make any distinctions -- they will say of her was Jake Sullivan said of Sanders.

(2,122 posts)Coddling Netanyahu and allowing him to dictate US/Mid-East policy has helped to bring us to this point.
Netanyahu advocated for the invasion of Iraq, and has been attempting to force the US to attack Iran in their name. Iran is not the only one at fault for the tensions we see today. And it would help if our leaders were willing to admit our roll in instigating the current state of our foreign affairs.
Just one more reason to vote for Bernie. I used the same calculus in 08. All Hillary has is Iran is bad, and it's all their own fault, blindly backing the ultra right wing. Bernie says Iran is bad, but things would have been different if we didn't depose Mosaddegh. Cautious, honest, most of all, diplomatic.

Oh well I will. The younger generation of Jews I've heard aren't terribly endeared with Israel's treatment of Palestinians and I could only imagine how they would feel if they heard about Israel's treatment of the Bedouin people.

(4,950 posts)For many years I kind of liked Hillary. In 2008 though I felt closer to Obama's policies (at least those he ran on in the primary) so I started working for him. When Hillary started with the same lousy campaign sleaze - the race baiting - the obvious lies - I started to really really dislike her.
During the following years - I mellowed. Thought, well she's not as bad as I thought. She's bright, savvy, she's a woman. I don't dislike her. I just don't want her to be President.
When Sanders entered the race I was thrilled - someone who's policies I really agreed with. Someone with integrity that I could believe in. Someone who made me hopeful about our future. But in the back of my mind I knew it was a long-shot. So I said to myself that it was OK. If Bernie doesn't make it - I can get behind Hillary. She'll do OK.
But here we are again. You simply cannot just present yourself and your ideas. Stop bringing out the surrogates with their nasty innuendo, stop the condescending and rehearsed lines when you talk about Bernie - even when you don't mention his name, you've got that phony smile and patronizing lilt. This edited version of reality about Iran and Israel. You don't have to go there. I want to think better of you.
STOP IT HILLARY. I may have to vote for you. You have a record (you are always telling me you do). Run on it. Don't make me have to get falling down drunk in order to pull the lever for you.

(4,377 posts)Many of us had just about gotten over her 2008 antics and if she'd just stayed positive I'm sure she'd still have seen off the Bernie challenge. Her early campaign was actually pretty smart, just put on a fake smile and adopt lighter versions of his policies. It was transparent, but it was working. It just seemed like there was a point where she threw that strategy out the window and just followed her faulty instincts to go negative. It seems like a bizarre misreading of the national mood.
