2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAARP must be very touchy. Told Obama 2012 to stop "citing" them. What?
Why wouldn't an organization want to be cited? Why wouldn't they want publicity?
AARP to Obama: Stop citing us
AARP has a message for President Obama: Stop using us to score political points.
Obama cited the nonpartisan senior lobby twice in Wednesday's debate when arguing against Mitt Romney's Medicare proposals.
The remarks prompted a polite statement from AARP Senior Vice President John Hishta asking candidates to refrain from mentioning the group.
"AARP has never consented to the use of its name by any candidate or political campaign," Hishta said.
"AARP is a nonpartisan organization, and we do not endorse political candidates nor coordinate with any candidate or political party."
Hishta sent a similar dispatch in August, when the Obama campaign released an ad using AARP quotes to attack Paul Ryan's Medicare policy.
Good grief that's not very bright. An organization pushing policy doesn't want a presidential candidate to refer to their policy. Blows my mind.

These seem to be promoted by the same set of userids.

(27,813 posts)Of course, you might want to argue that the AARP were responding to something that didn't happen - because they're now part of "the Establishment" and all.

(10,751 posts)...the OP never made such a claim.
A lot of people here are trying to make a mountain out of this molehill. There are various levels of seriousness to campaign missteps. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd rate this at about 1.5.
NanceGreggs
(27,813 posts)... the AARP "being touchy" - which I assume was prompted by today's news that Bernie's campaign used their logo without authorization.
However, the OP talks about Obama being told not to "cite" the AARP, and says nothing about using their logo without permission.
Why is everything Bernie does a "molehill", while everything HRC does is a mountain?
Things that make you go hmmmmm ...
I've no doubt that if Hillary's campaign used the AARP logo without authorization, we'd be talking about an outraged, OMG!!!-style 11 on that scale of 1 to 10.
ljm2002
(10,751 posts)...if that.
I can't speak for others, but if Hillary's campaign had made the same misstep I'd give it the same rating of 1.5. Really, it isn't much of a thing at all. Bernie's campaign used a logo (well apparently it used a photo of AARP members whose t-shirts had the logo), AARP said stop it, the campaign said okay, the end.
And yet Hillary's supporters would have us translate this into "OMG they have no ethics! OMG his whole campaign has gone rogue!" and the like. The level of hysteria of course shows that Hillary's supporters are feeling more than a little touchy these days. JMHO.

(27,813 posts)... is coming from BSers who insist that facts about BS's campaign tactics are "smears", while smears about HRC being imminently indicted over her emails are "facts".
Not to worry. It will all be over quite soon. Then we can deal with the "votes were rigged" posts when Bernie goes down for the count.

(62,325 posts)If you have it, then please provide it. But there is something intereting about this AARP 'story, a common link.
Obama/HILLARY/AARP and now Bernie/HILLARY/AARP.
Somethng to ponder. With smearmonger David Brock working for Hillary caught several times now spewing lies about Bernie Sanders, anything is possible. What a vile creature for a woman who claims to support women to have on her team.

(62,325 posts)People have been searching all day, i've asked the 'accusers' but got no response. So until we see it, it's just another smear added to all the others that are coming from Hillary's campaign like a tsunami, kind of like 'let's throw poo at the wall and see what sticks'.
It isn't sticking, people are familiar with these old dirty campaign trics. Still waiting for proof.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it kind of smells like the AARP is giving Hillary some support here.
