Hillary in Davenport and Dubuque IOWA Jan 29

Last edited Sun Jan 31, 2016, 08:13 PM - Edit history (1)

I saw a post somewhere here on DU this morning in which a picture was posted and a comment (paraphrasing this) for Jan 29. The comment said something to the effect of -lots of press but nothing else. A few responses followed with snark about small crowds.
Anyway, the pic that the Sanders supporter posted was the press setting up before the Town Hall in Dubuque Iowa.

So--to correct the record I am posting a few pics of Hillary's Jan 29 Town Hall in Dubuque once the event got going.

** And just to be clear---I do not care about whether or not the crowd was large or small. We all know that Hillary does Town Halls where she can interact and communicate with the audience. Large rallies are not conducive to that.

Enjoy the pics

"She's never touched a thing she didn't make better," Bill Clinton says of Hillary.

And earlier in Dubuque:

Clinton on 2000 election: "We went off and elected another -- Well, the Supreme Court went off and selected another Republican president."

the crowd is larger or not. Look at the red, white, and blue banner along the left wall in your first photo, and in the one from this post: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=1095255. Your pic makes it look like there's a sizeable crowd in the hall, but the other pic shows just how far forward that banner is. I don't have a reference pic for the Davenport rally, but again, there aren't any long views to give a sense of the size of the hall.

At this link: http://www.thonline.com/news/tri-state/article_e6487b45-6fd4-5cbc-b00d-f926a2e942df.html, the Dubuque rally crowd size was estimated at 460, while a Sanders rally held on the same day drew a crowd of 1300.

It's kind of silly to say you don't care about the size of the crowd and then post pictures clearly meant to give the impression that there's a large crowd.

Those are two different venues depicted above. One is Dubuque, the other, Davenport.

It is obvious, looking at the Dubque photo, and then the 'other' Dubuque pic, that is not shown here, but that you linked to in your first link, that the other one--the "gotcha" one-- was taken before everyone had arrived. You can see the rope line in both and in the picture above, there is a person just about sitting on the stanchion, whereas in your photo, there's a lot of blank space between the edge of the crowd and the stanchion.

But, more to the point, really, people who are voting for HRC know why they are voting for her, they don't need to go to a 'happening' to meet new friends or hear an oft-repeated stump speech. They're older, they aren't into standing in lines or standing up for hours, waiting....UNLESS they're waiting to vote. They have jobs, families, responsibilities--they're less demonstrative, and perhaps underestimated. Also, HRC's venues aren't BIG CROWD-BIG WARM UP-CANNED STUMP SPEECH-COUPLE OF SELFIES--BOOK OUTTA THERE. She answers questions -- she engages the audience. It's not a one way communication. The smaller (and more frequent) venues support that kind of interaction.

....like you point out, he comes out from behind the curtains, gives the same stump speech he's been giving since April, wraps it up and is whisked back behind the curtain.

She's held town halls all over the country, at least one or two each week.

He's held very few if any town halls. He's not interested in what people think or what they have to say. He just talks about "corrupt this", "corrupt that", "rigged politics", the "oligarchy", "billionaires", etc.

but there's no evidence that's the case. The way to demonstrate there were more people present at the time the photos you posted were taken would be to show another long shot with a larger crowd.

are the only things that detect public support and that those big rallies will translate to votes. Ask President McGovern, who had bigger crowds than Nixon did in 1972, if that is the case.

to infer something that wasn't true. Thanks for posting the actual gathering, it is clear there was a very good turnout for her townhall. I prefer smaller gatherings where I can get a sense of the candidate up close as opposed to rallies which, to me, are not interactive at all.
