2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumi'm for the democrat.
i just want to say that upfront. i love bernie and have contributed to his campaign several times now, but when push comes to shove i am voting for the democrat. i live and vote in NC so my vote matters and i will vote for the democrat.
listening to NPR yesterday and they played a clip from the most recent republican debate; it was ted cruz talking about obamacare. A string of lies coming out of that crazy mouth like obscenities. Donald Trump who didn't show up because the woman offended him (when she asked the question that bothered him his response was that she must have been menstruating at the time!). Donald Trump the republican frontrunner who can hardly stop talking about himself long enough to discuss any issue and when he does it's all zenophobia and fear fear fear. Fiorina lies as overt and obscene as Cruz. i mean the entire fucking republican agenda is insane and even though some may say i'm hedging, i am saying i will do whatever i can to be sure the next president is the democrat.
i know hilary has lied and i know that when her back is up against the wall she (and/or her campaign) does not respond well. But please do not try to sell me the idea that she would be as bad as a republican! it is just not true. Obama has broken my heart and i still am behind him because at the end of the day i do believe he has done his level best for the country.
even if bernie wins, he will make decisions and hold beliefs that are not identical to my own. he's great talking about income equality, but what about endless war? nobody is perfect and nobody who holds the office of president is going to follow my personal edicts for the running of this country. but the democrat will come closest whether it's sanders, clinton, or even o'malley (who should probably have been given a greater opportunity to become well known).
Who will you vote for?

(7,297 posts)I would love to vote for a Democrat. I always have. But it looks like my party is going to nominate a Republican.

(62,343 posts)We listen in the morning at various times while we eat breakfast.
For the past several months we never fail to hear at least one story of Republicans campaigning etc.
Even when they have their news stories it seems that they always have some expert from a Republican think tank like AEI or Manhattan Project or others.
The news stories on Democrats have been sparse in our experience.
It has gotten such that I find myself reaching over to turn off the radio quite frequently rather than listen.
NPR is the only thing that is even close to listenable on terrestrial radio anymore and it is just barely listenable.

(28,702 posts)i turn on the cd pretty much whenever they start their political coverage it's so bad and so infuriating. i think they've been bought by the kochs or something.

(62,343 posts)commentary from some Republican think tank that is never identified as such. They give a name and you the listener are left to guess who operates it. Can't remember if I have ever heard a democratic think tank cited.

(36,063 posts)Rural WI often has only one republican name running for minor local office. And my nightmare is that my use of my write-in vote in low turnout elections could end up getting me elected coroner.

(2,872 posts)I spoke candidly with a Clinton supporter this morning, and she's just... I don't know what to believe about her regarding her emails, but when I look at her donors, when I look at her voting record, when I look at her and the rest of the complicit liberals who voted for a war that broke so many of my family, my countrymen, my brothers and sisters in arms... I can't believe she stands for anything I believe in. I'd love to be able to vote for a democrat, but I do not believe that will be the case.

(28,702 posts)the next president will nominate someone to the supreme court. hillary has stood fast in her support for planned parenthood and women's rights. she does have extensive foreign policy experience and is probably on a first name basis with most of the world's leaders. yes she is beholden to wall street, but i don't believe we've heard her calling for tax cuts on the rich. etc. she is still head and shoulders and feet and toes above and better than anyone on the republican side.
far from perfect, yes, but also far from republican. i know many on DU disagree with that assessment but it is my belief.

(2,872 posts)It doesn't matter who she puts on the Supreme Court if I, or any one of my brothers in arms is dead because she has this weird either hatred or desire to unnecessarily intervene in the Middle East, though we made that bed way back in the fifties. That's my qualm with her. My qualms are TPP, SOPA, the PATRIOT Act, her support for the Iraq War, her support for intervening in Syria and Libya, there's just so much wrong here. She's a talented politician, I'll give her that-- and if there's one thing I can expect a politician to do, it's to lie through their teeth.
