Enough.
One of my favorite writers on Daily Kos is Dallasdoc and he has outdone himself with a recent diary called Enough. Here is a tiny sliver of that piece, but please go to the diary and read in its entirety. It has close to 700 recs which is pure awesomeness.
Hillary Clinton and her backers explicitly believe that in this Citizens United world, the best way to fight corrupt money in politics on the Republican side is with more corrupt money on the Democratic side. How else can we win? Actually, fighting fire with fire only creates a lot more ashes. The best way to fight fire is with water. The best way to fight corrupt money in politics is not more corrupt money in politics. The best way is to make corrupt money poison to any politician accepting it. That means weaponizing corruption as a political issue, and taking advantage of the anger in the country at politics.
This seemingly obvious point has been ignored because of the fact that in order to wield the weapon of corruption as an issue, you have to be perceived as not tainted by it yourself. This requirement has left it unused in our political culture. Bernie Sanders is one of the very few politicians in national politics who has not been generally corrupted by Washington. Just like Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption, he swam through a river of shit and came out clean. Bernie can wield the weapon of corruption, and has been doing so to increasing effect. Even Donald Trump has been able to swing it a few times, despite his obvious deep involvement. Apparently to Republican voters, it’s better to be a buyer than a seller at the politician market. Nobody else in the race has a chance of using corruption to their advantage as an issue. Hillary Clinton’s long record (the downside of “experience” is that it leaves a record) leaves her defenseless against the weapon of the corruption issue. And Republicans know it. Donald Trump has already fired a shot across her bow by mentioning her association with him. It is not unlikely that one of the reasons the Republican establishment has begun cozying up to the Donald is that they see a possibility he can beat Hillary. If they’re right, corruption will no doubt be the main feature of their general election campaign. Another endless round of accusations and scandals surrounding a Clinton, this time with a lot more evidence than was available to those pushing the Vince Foster conspiracy nonsense. Should Clinton win, the drumbeat would continue as long as she maintained office. Anybody who remembers the Nineties should be tingling in anticipation of that prospect. We cannot roll back the corruption of our political system with more corruption. The Democratic party can only win a corrupt contest by trying to be just as corrupt as the Republicans, but they have more billionaires than we do. The only way to win is with asymmetric warfare, by not playing according to their rules. Hillary Clinton cannot do this. Bernie Sanders can. The American people have had enough with the corrupt status quo. Anyone who calls him or herself a Progressive should not tolerate it, for historical reasons if nothing else. Who will fight this corruption if we don’t? http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/1/31/1477674/-Enough

29. Dallas Doc rarely writes diaries, but he has been always been one the most highly rated commenters
there for many years. He is highly respected there, never attacking, always factual, his comments receive hundreds of recs themselves sometimes.
Doesn't engage in the usual nonsense that goes on there like here, just keeps on telling the truth. He's a great poster and it tells a lot about that site that some of their worst writers have been appointed to the FP while Dallas Doc has not. |

"Bernie Sanders will be attacked as a socialist, and a Red Commie, and a Godless atheist, and who knows what the fuck else. But Bernie Sanders is a moral man who has spent his life working for and fighting for the people. He also has Kryptonite against the Republican smears: the awesome, shameless, historic corruption of today’s Republican party. He can parry their thrusts with the Koch brothers and climate change denialism and Social Security privatization and tax cuts for billionaires and the Iraq war debacle. He knows how to stay on message and present a vision to the American people through all the fog and distractions of the media courtiers. "

19. republicans start with a 4$BIL/yr advantage in talk radio
what dems/left NEVER figure in is $$$4BIL + worth of free talk radio per year working for the republicans
(1200 stns x 15 hrs/day x $1000/ hr) trump and cruz are riding 25 years of that now, while limbaugh likes them and not bush. that is the only explanaiotn needed for why bush's big money isn't working. the gymnastics dems go through when it comes to money in politics look trivial in comparison. and no wonder we can't re-regulate anything and keep losing no brainer elections all over the country. |

32. Bill Clinton signed the Telecommunications Bill. Go figure!
It allowed consolidations in the media that have squeezed all but a few publicly financed stations out. And most of the remaining publicly financed, non-NPR stations that are left are struggling desperately.
NPR, of course, just stopped struggling and allowed itself to float in a mass of (insert four-letter word here). I can't even stand to listen to the tone with which the NPR spokespeople drone along, sing-songy and cute. Very annoying. But that is just my opinion. NPR = NTR in my book: National Trivia Radio. |

33. i agree on npr but the telcom act was not the decider.
reagan killed the fairness doctrine in 87 and the radio monopoly- was already very successful by ten years later when the telcom act came along and that was pushed by talk radio and the republican congress it was instrumental in electing. the talk radio base was pushing hard for deregulation and looked like a legitimate popular base of support for deregulation because the left /dems paid it no attention, it was very loud, well misinformed, and well coordinated. talk radio was already doing great for them, like with trashing anita hill, selling reagan and iran contra excuses, obstructing clinton, stopping single payer, etc.
even if they couldn't own all those stations they'd be owned by more republicans and the same few headliners like limbaugh on hundreds of stations and their local wannabes would all be singing the same chorus on all major issues. the tel com act helped but i'd credit loss of the fairness doctrine for much of the decline of democracy the last 25 years. talking about npr, limbaugh just played a clip of an npr reporter calling this a talk radio election with trump and cruz, if trump won it'd be the first talk radio presidency, etc. that is the first time in 25 years i've heard on any national media talk radio getting the credit it deserved. |

41. i vaguely remember limbaugh and sons pushing that deregulation
cause it was going to save money, improve news, create jobs, help control the 'liberal media', etc - whatever they could think of- a smorgasbord of rationalizations to choose from to make it easy for the average citizen to want it.
just like apposing single payer and then public option - same techniques, same invisibility to the left, and same successful results here's a long description of what happened right after tel com passed passed http://www.enquirer.com/editions/1997/08/24/bus_jacor.html |
