clip
This is really quite strange because Charlie Rangel is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. The CPC has 75 members in the House and one in the Senate, Bernie Sanders.
The CPC membership overlaps significantly with the Congressional Black Caucus.
Oh, and Bernie was a founding member of the CPC, along with Maxine Waters and Ron Dellums.
Surely Charlie Rangel (whos my rep) knows this. So what is Rangel trying to say? That Bernie doesnt have a national profile with black voters? I think thats changing as we get deeper into the calendar.

(3,967 posts)do you think Rangel is being less than fully honest here?
PufPuf23
(8,755 posts)1. Rangel is being less than honest (and he has endorsed Hillary Clinton).
"And who is Bernie Sanders? Does anybody in the community know him, so that we can find out who he is? These are things that we are talking about, said Rangel, who has endorsed Hillary Clinton.
When pressed about his statement about Sanders, Rangel responded that he is not the one who is asking these questions for Clintons primary opponent.
Not me, but I dont know any black person who knows Bernie Sanders, he said."
I don't get why some Hillary Clinton supporters feel the need to diminish Bernie Sanders.
2. Bernie Sanders is a founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (along with Ron Dellums and Maxine Waters) and a member of the Rainbow Coalition and Council on Racial Equality (CORE); Hillary Clinton was not a member of any of these organizations.
Bernie Sanders was a leading member of Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition as well as being a founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus along with Ron Dellums and Maxine Waters.
Going back to the 1960s, Sanders was a member of Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and we know he participated in demonstrations as well.

(975 posts)Trying to smear Sanders and his work on civil rights to get Clinton elected. I have zero respect for these people and I don't care one bit what they've accomplished. They've lost my respect by being liars. They've also lost my vote for being no different than the Republicans
If they're going to lie, smear, and slander another Democrat they're no better than the Republicans they hate. That's exactly what our party has done to Bernie. Lie, slander, and smear. All to protect a corrupt and broken system.
Add in that they're protecting someone who's beholden to the crooks who stole so many lives in 2008 and you can see why so many people are pissed at the Democratic Party.

(8,755 posts)IMHO this salon article is a fair description of what is happening.
http://www.salon.com/2016/02/19/hillary_clintons_cynical_race_appeals_the_revenge_of_neoliberal_identity_politics/
Hillary Clinton, scraping the bottom of the barrel in her attempts to discredit Bernie Sanders, is now repeatedly making the case that democratic socialism is too narrowly tailored to accommodate a true rainbow coalition. Never mind that the rise of Bill Clintons corporate-aligned Democratic Leadership Council served to marginalize the forces represented by Jesse Jacksons actual Rainbow Coalition within the party.
If we broke up the big banks tomorrow, and I will if they deserve it
would that end racism? Clinton asked a Nevada crowd last week. No! they roared back again and again as she criticized Bernie Sanders purportedly single-issue agenda. Would that end sexism? Would that end discrimination against the LGBT community? Would that make people feel more welcoming to immigrants overnight?

Clinton is panicked, terrified that a growing number of non-white voters will not back her reflexively in the Democratic primary. Seeping in through polls and pronouncements geared to manage expectations ahead of the Nevada caucuses, there is a creeping sense that Sanders might just attract not only white women but a surprising number of the people of color that pundits describe as Clintons firewall. This is American politics at peak neoliberalism, where a distorted version of identity politics is used to defend an oligarchy and a national security state, celebrating diversity in the management of exploitation and warfare.
I think its very cynical, says Rutgers historian Donna Murch, the author of a recent New Republic article titled The Clintons War on Drugs: When Black Lives Didnt Matter. Saying that political economy doesnt matter to black people, I think that that is terrible. Especially when you look at the impact of what happened with the subprime crisis.

He's being Hillary's attack dog. Doing her dirty work so she don't have to get her hands dirty.
I'm not impressed by this. I've never had a lower opinion of the Democratic Party than right now.
