To the extent that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has struggled to connect with black voters in South Carolina, it is in large part because he doesnt have political roots with people like Bernice Scott ride or die supporters who have been with the Clintons for more than two decades... It is true that some of them defected to Obama in 2008, moved by the chance to make history by electing the first African American president. Some of them had a falling out with the Clintons, who were accused of using racially-tinged rhetoric to disparage Obamas candidacy.
But Hillary Clintons favorable ratings never slipped underwater among African Americans, and polls have consistently shown that most have been happy to support her second bid for president. They say Clinton is the best qualified candidate, is an ally of Obama who will continue his policies and that she and her husband have history with black voters. These voters provided Clinton with a solid base of support that Sanders has been unable to crack.

She is similarly dismissive of a renewed push by some Sanders supporters and activists sympathetic to the Black Lives Matter movement to call attention to Clinton's past support for anti-crime laws and welfare reform that some argue have disproportionately harmed black communities.
You find me a person who has not made an error. Thats how we grow from our mistakes -- and she has said over and over again that some of the things we worked on she didnt understand at the time the whole impact it would have. But now she sees that and shes been doing is trying to correct it."

That lady recognized Clinton's racist slips and gave her an all-day hall pass.
Good for her.

Who is Bernie Sanders? he said while sitting on a bench during an afternoon break. Brown, 59, is already leaning toward Hillary Clinton and doesnt plan to start researching other options.
I dont have time, he said, gesturing toward the downtown building where hes been working. Im here all day.
Sanders effort to broaden his appeal beyond white progressives and young people has run into a roadblock here in the form of black working-class voters, who in interviews here this week repeatedly voiced their longtime loyalty to Clinton. Several echoed Browns point that they dont have time to explore an alternative nor interest in learning about Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont who was practically unknown in South Carolina before launching his presidential bid.

(14,249 posts)Because one black voter is quoted as saying he doesn't know who Bernie Sanders is, this is proof of what ALL black people know - because, of course, it's not a problem to attribute the behavior and attributes of one black person to the entire race.
And it's amusing to see Bernie supporters cut and paste this excerpt over and over again as supposed "evidence" that black voters as a whole don't know anything about Sanders since such a claim actually undercuts your argument that Bernie has been fighting so hard for civil rights all of his life.
What you don't seem to realize is that Bernie's problem is not that black people don't know enough about his record - it's that if he had been such a fighter for civil rights for black people, the people he has supposedly been fighting for all this time would know all about him without having a bunch of white people explain it to them. The very fact that he has had to campaign so hard to the black community is proof that he hasn't been there in the past - otherwise, they would know him well. The fact that Bernie's supporters feel they have to "introduce" Bernie to black people should tell you how absent he has been from their world for the past several decades.

(12,769 posts)Hillary hasn't made a 'mistake'. But a series of 'mistakes' and she has no intention of correcting them. This is just sad.
And why does she get a pass on her 'mistakes' when the kids that make mistakes end up being called 'super-predators' and locked in prison for decades?
