Related: About this forumHillary Clinton fundraiser with NRA and Goldman Sachs lobbyists
Just reported on CNN by Jake Tapper. He said, "I asked John Podesta why Hillary Clinton is holding a fundraiser with lobbyists for the NRA and Goldman Sachs. His response was that 'We have to. Bernie is raising a lot of money.'"
Bernie Sanders, is it an honor to support an honest politician who, in February, raised $42 million dollars from "We The People".
I am so proud of Bernie Sanders; his principles, his important messages, his rock-solid integrity and his ability to fuel a competitive, national campaign with dollars from real people.

Jake Tapper said exactly what I wrote. My husband and I both heard it, we turned to each other and both shook our heads.
I couldn't believe it when he said the NRA! I mean, we know she's purchased by Goldman Sachs, but the NRA?
I don't quite understand the dynamics there. I guess they're going to be working her over--and giving her money.

The tone has changed also. They do not see Hillary as inevitable and I get the idea that our funding efforts are making them sit up and take notice that Bernie is no more subject to control by the DNC money machine than Trump is to the RNC's.

But its mind boggling that we have Clinton supporters on this board and other liberal outlets when we hear stories like this from the Clinton camp everyday. I have voted for the lesser devil many times, but this must take the cake. It was only a month ago she was telling us the most important thing was gun control, and how D- rated Bernie Sanders would be able to stand up to the NRA, and now she is raising funds from NRA lobbyists.
I don't get it. I don't even think GOP is this blatant.

So, Forbes--the guy co-hosting the HRC fundraiser with Podesta has many years under his belt, lobbying for the NRA. He specialized in 2nd Amendment rights.
Jake Tapper, when he reported this on CNN--obviously knew that Forbes as an NRA lobbyist.

(24,411 posts)Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has called her support for gun control laws a key differentiator from her opponent Bernie Sanders, who she claims isnt tough enough on the industry. But in mid-March, a Clinton campaign fundraiser will be co-hosted by a lobbyist whose clients have included the National Rifle Association (NRA).
As David Sirota reported Monday in the International Business Times, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta is a co-host and the guest of honor at a fundraising lunch in the nations capital on March 21.
One of the other co-hosts is Jeff Forbes of the lobbying firm Forbes-Tate.
Forbes has represented the NRA since 2009 and as of the last quarter of 2015 was still registered to lobby for the organization. On his lobbying disclosure, Forbes wrote that he was signed up to lobby for Issues related to 2nd Amendment rights, regulation and gun control, and tax and appropriations related to same; issues related to corporate tax reform. [Update at 4:41 p.m. ET: Jennifer Baker, director of public affairs for the NRAs Institute for Legislative Action, emails us to say that Jeff Forbes is no longer an NRA consultant.]

John Forbes owns the lobbying firm. It's his firm. His firm (and John Forbes) has represented the NRA since 2009.

Jake Tapper spoke to John Podesta about this conflict of interest, and Podesta didn't deny that the co-host of Hillary's upcoming fundraiser was an NRA lobbyist.
Podesta deflected and spoke about Hillary's strong record on gun control.
I think we can put this issue to bed. This man has been an NRA lobbyist since 2009. Podesta never contested that point in the CNN interview.

According to what I just read, there will be a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in mid-March. Podesta and Jeff Forbes are co-hosting this fundraiser.
According to this article, "Forbes has represented the NRA since 2009 and as of the last quarter of 2015 was still registered to lobby for the organization. On his lobbying disclosure, Forbes wrote that he was signed up to lobby for Issues related to 2nd Amendment rights, regulation and gun control, and tax and appropriations related to same; issues related to corporate tax reform.
Clearly, this man has worked as an NRA advocate/lobbyist for several years.
The article was updated this afternoon by the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action to say that Forbes is no longer an NRA consultant. However, when Tapper interviewed Podesta and called out Forbes ties to the NRA as a lobbyist, Podesta never disputed that Forbes was an NRA lobbyist.
That happened later. Seems like this guy's history is being re-written because it looks bad.

Podesta claims "that person no longer works for the gun lobby". Should we doubt Podesta about the gun lobbyist no longer working for the gun lobby? No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know.
