Related: About this forumPBS News Hour: "Your Numbers Are Misleading"
PBS had a new person on discussing the primaries. PBS showed the delegate numbers in the Democratic race and lumped in the un-pledged super delegates with Hillary's pledged delegates.
The new person immediately said that PBS numbers were misleading.
I betcha PBS just ignores that truth and continues down that misleading path.

The establishment heads of the party need to wake up and put an end to the news people misleading the public.

(11,785 posts)and did, in 2008. If HRC's campaign goes sour for any reason, the superdelegates aren't obligated to vote for her.

(6,346 posts)I forget the exact numbers..
Something like 1052 for HRC and 425 for BS. Chuck Todd did however voice over while running the numbers that these totals include the super delegates that are not chosen by primary or caucus. He also said "just over half" of Clinton's number were super delegates.
Assume half...that means the electorate choice is about 525 to 425. Gives a different impression of the spread, eh?

(1,890 posts)All of the corporate media are including the super delegates. I just saw CBS do it and never once mention it includes super delegates. Face it kids we are running against the entire political establishment and the corporate media and they don't care that they are misleading voters. A Republican I work with said he was angry at the GOP for trying to defeat Trump. He said the voters should be the ones to decide not the establishment. He also said he recognized what they were doing to Bernie too. He's not a big Trump supporter. He's criticized all kinds of things he's said but he's being pushed in Trump's direction because of the GOP establishment.

(6,474 posts)as long as it is reported correctly news organization should report this information. I understand many don't want the truth to be reported
Its really no different than reporting the results of a poll
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)It is a dereliction of duty to report them as being owned by Hillary.
I bet the lady who told them the numbers are misleading is never invited back.
Stallion
(6,474 posts)News organizations should report the events which under the rules of the Democratic Party are relevant to a candidate reaching the required delegates to win the nomination-and they should report that those pledged delegates can change their mind as well
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)I am not following you. To be clear, the super delegates are not owned by Hillary. The news should not be lumping them in the H column. They should be separate, right?
Stallion
(6,474 posts)if they reported that the 500 or so delegates were pledged but can later change their minds then that is a 100% correct fact that should be reported because it is relevant to whether Clinton potentially has enough votes for the nomination. Apparently a lot of Sanders supporters don't want a relevant fact to be reported. I'm sure its embarrassing that 98% of Democratic Officeholders don't want a Democratic Socialist at the Top of the same Ticket

The McNeil/Leher newshour would have never allowed the misleading on the air like was done today.

(13,685 posts)That the media is using misleading graphs and numbers.
You brought up the idea that things are not the same in every state. That's fine. No complaints.
