2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumToday's Meme: Hillary supports job-killing trade deals
Imports from China. NAFTA. WTO. She sold TPP around the world, calling it the gold standard.
Does anybody really believe she wouldn't sign the TPP as president?
These deals are not about trade. These are corporate governance agreements that put profit over people. Corporations are guaranteed the right to profit and people are guaranteed the right to starve.
These deals are anti-worker.
Anti-union.
Anti-environment.
Dangerous for consumers.
Harmful toward indigenous communities
And undermine people's struggles for democracy and liberation around the world.
Enough is enough.
When you're impacted by this, you know it. Factories sitting empty for decades. Rusting away in front of us. Millions of people pushed out of the workforce, not even counted as unemployed. A huge amount of structural unemployment. The tax base of our communities is destroyed and we have no money to repair our crumbling public infrastructure. Bridges close because there is no money to maintain them, and they just never reopen. No money for schools or public health. All the money is being vacuumed up by the top 1%.
We need new trade rules that put people over profit. That demand businesses create good paying jobs here at home, not dismantle and ship their assembly lines to China and Vietnam.
This has been today's meme. Thank's for listening.

(11,101 posts)It's our workers that are screwing over even poorer workers in third world countries that need the jobs even more than we do (even at subsistence wages, it makes them a lot better off) and then we all get the benefit of being able to buy cheap crap.
No joke, that was his position on trade.
