Thought Exercise: It's eight years from now. What are Clinton's big achievements?

Last edited Sun Mar 6, 2016, 02:42 PM - Edit history (1)

I mean this as a thought exercise, and I'm curious to hear what Clinton supporters think. (Yes, that means I'd appreciate my fellow Sandernistas refraining from chiming in, particularly with snark, even if you think it's deserved.)

EDIT: Can't seem to emphasize this enough: Not a thread for Sanders supporters to take jabs. Plenty of other threads for that. I want to hear from HRC supporters.

So: Hillary gets the nomination. She wins in the general. She even wins re-election. It's the final day of her second term. What has been accomplished? Note: I mean what might, in your mind, have been actually accomplished, not simply your wishlist. What are the achievements? How did they happen, and what did it take to get them done? Were there any disappointments or areas that could have been improved? What does America look like at the end of that second term?

She'll have declared three or four new wars, at least two of which will be on-going. She'll have acquiesced to the gutting of the VA hospitals. Wall Street firms with be larger than ever, with their employees happily getting huge bonuses every year, even after the two years or so of a near-crash. Federal Minimum Wage will still be $7.25/hour, and some twenty-five states will have passed legislation forbidding a state or local minimum any higher than that.

And those will just be the high points.

was for me to gain a better understanding of how Clinton voters see the future following an HRC presidency.

I'm a little disappointed that none have responded yet, because it was meant to be a sincere exercise, but I'm hopeful some of them will lay out their visions for me.

Probably she'll try to put Iran on an "oil for food" program. Basically reversing one of President Obama's biggest achievements.

Probably a few South American coups, Venezuela, Bolivia, etc.

Signing the TPP, and deals with Europe.

Could I get you to be a little more specific? I hear you saying she will stop conservative programs/actions. What progress do you imagine you'd see at the end of those 8 years that was not reactionary (i.e., just preventing the conservative agenda from being advanced)?

Thanks

is quite vague and essentially immune to fact-checking.

I don't think the Hillary supporters are fully honest with themselves about what would happen during her Presidency. They're so focused on OMG! THE *FIRST* WOMAN PRESIDENT!!!! that they're not looking very closely at what she has actually said and done in the past.

The next time someone brings up how she's fought for woman, remind them that she pays her female staffers significantly less than her male ones. Not quite walking the walk.

do in the next few 2-year cycles. We may get the Senate back this year, if people don't stay home in a snit. If Democrats turn out in presidential election year numbers in 2018, 2020 and 2022, we will take back the House. If that happens, the sky's the limit as to what Hillary can accomplish. If it doesn't happen, we'll have 8 more years of obstruction.

Frankly, it's going to be up to us all. Will we do what's needed? I wish I could predict that. I can't though. We didn't stand behind the Obama administration and give him a Congress that would work for him. It's a very sad commentary on our commitment, frankly.
