If they favored it, that makes them complicit in a decade of pointless and unjustified war against the people of Nicaragua.

For those who don't know, the Contras were a bandit army, organized largely by wealthy Nicaraguan exiles based out of Miami(they had Miami Cuban support).

The Contras target innocent civilians. They killed people for committing such crimes as running coffee cooperatives. On at least one occasion, they attacked a wedding reception and murdered the bride.

Republicans and the far right-wing of our own party supported this bandit army in the name of "anti-communism".

Well known at all levels at the agency, but got a wink and a nod because it lubricated so many other aspects of many operations in parts of the world where opium and cocaine and guns were everyday currency. The role of BushCo and BinLaden/Bin Mahfouz in BCCI bank takeovers and looting and the S&Ls during the late 1970s and 1980s, particularly the looting of Republic National Bank and land grab across the oil patch, is less well known, but is as important a backstory. There was also the ongoing relationship of the Riadys with the Stephens and through them with Bill.
