Seattle is Berning: We’re tops in the U.S. for per capita Bernie Sanders donations

The Seattle Times editorial board surprised a lot of readers by recommending Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primary — the only major daily newspaper in the country to do so.

Say what you will about that controversial endorsement, you can’t accuse The Times of being out of step with the city.

Seattle ranks No. 1 among the 50 biggest U.S. cities for per-capita contributions to Bernie Sanders, according to my analysis of the most recent data from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Itemized donations from Seattleites to Sanders totaled $596,578 through Jan. 31. That pencils out to a rate of $893 per 1,000 city residents, handily beating out No. 2 San Francisco and No. 3 Portland.

Looks like Washington, Oregon and possibly California may all be strong Bernie states!!!

Though a majority portion of my family are Irish Travelers. Similar, but still pretty different.

Lolo Diklo ("Red Scarf&quot is a Roma museum / social awareness outfit here on Vashon Island run by a lovely woman that I barely got to know. There are a few Roma families living over here.

Hipsters do help my self-esteem, though. Hard not to feel better about yourself with such wonderful compare-and-contrast opportunities. If I bring an instrument, it'll be a fiddle. Whether that's better or worse would probably depend on your opinion of my playing.

I've been to Tillamook a good many times over the years...if sometimes only to hang a left and head down to Depoe Bay for chowder at the Sea Hag!

6 in this house, about 8-10 others. All voting and excited about it. A few are ok with voting in Hillary against any of the republicans, but a few dont want to have too, and will probably just skip voting if shes the nom.

Where are they hiding? Most of my friends are women between about 40 and 60 years-old, so that's maybe why. Most are very strong Hillary supporters.

I'm from Seattle and i'm so proud to have donated to his campaign.. First time i've ever donated to a politician. My whole family, extended family (Traditional down ballot democrats who can see through the HRC campaign lies and distortions), about 85% of my friends support Bernie.... all of us are planning on showing up to the caucuses here on the 26th to ensure that Bernie is well represented here in the Emerald City! Perhaps i'll even run into a few of you wonderful Bernie supporters along the way!
