Hillary Clinton outraged LGBT activists on Friday with her comments at Nancy Reagans funeral praising the former first lady for helping start a national conversation about HIV remarks that critics say ignore the Reagans deeply troubling legacy on the 1980s Aids crisis.
It may be hard for your viewers to remember how difficult it was for people to talk about HIV/Aids back in the 1980s, the Democratic frontrunner told MSNBC in an interview at the funeral, which was held at the Reagan presidential library in Simi Valley, California.
Clinton continued: Because of both president and Mrs Reagan, in particular Mrs Reagan, we started a national conversation when before nobody would talk about it, nobody wanted to do anything about it, and that, too, is something that I really appreciate. With her very effective, low-key advocacy it penetrated the public conscience and people began to say: Hey, we have to do something about this too.

(1,571 posts)She's new to this whole icon of the LGBT community role she's affected...she's not familiar with the history or the language yet. I'm guessing she still has the moral bends from evolving out of her deeply held beliefs that "marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman", mists of time and all that, to the pinnacle of marriage equality. The occasional relapse into her republican patois is to be expected.

(154,021 posts)but in the larger scheme of things, sadly, and I partially blame the media... most Americans would not even know who HRC, or for that matter Bernie Sanders, or the three viable republicans are.
They simply do not care (and that is a problem).

It's bad to see her pandering to republicans, but awful to see her LIE and distort history to do so.
