Bernie supporters take the fight into the lion's den. Where were Hillary supporters?

Peaceful Bernie supporters, peaceful immigration rights activists and peaceful Black Lives Matter activists infiltrate racist bigot misogynist Trump rally and close it down.

They were too funny. Of course we had leaders, but we didn't have a leader. Almost everyone at some point took a leadership position on some issue or another. We had teach ins, meetings, and some started organizing to stop banks from evicting people unjustly.

I love this from MoveOn:

“Mr. Trump and the Republican leaders who support him and his hate-filled rhetoric should be on notice after tonight’s events," Sheyman said. "These protests are a direct result of the violence that has occurred at Trump rallies and that has been encouraged by Trump himself from the stage."

Sheyman, representing one of several left-leaning groups working to elect Sanders, thanked the protesters for their actions.

"To all of those who took to the streets of Chicago, we say thank you for standing up and saying enough is enough," Sheyman said. "To Donald Trump, and the GOP, we say, welcome to the general election."

We are much further down the revolution road than the tyhird way bridge club kibbitzing (isn't that bridge built yet?) would allow. The patient and polite are bone tired of not being heard, and not being served..by either side. This is just the start. Drumpf provides a catalyst but the fuel and the accelerant are already in place. This is what happens when you keep your powder dry too long. Its going to be scary, but its going to be a real tonic for the country

Has that been established? If the protesters, I don't consider that a wise course. If Mr Trump's minions started swinging, though, then the protesters had every right to defend themselves. (Mind you, by the tenets of non-violence, they should not; but it is possible that non-violence is not the most appropriate response to fascism, which glories in violence)

to get the fuck out of town. These were mostly individuals and groups of friends and different organized groups in opposition to what Trumps candidacy represents.

I heard people on local radio for the last couple of weeks saying they were getting tickets so they could give Trump shit. There wasn't any "as a Bernie supporter, I feel it is my duty to..." except from Bernie supporters, who often seem to feel IT is about them...

I like it better if it's this way--a broad coalition of people sick of Trump and wanting him off their campus and out of their city--rather than a partisan political action for one candidate. I heard there was a Bernie sign and some Bernie chanters, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a coalition. I can understand Bernie supporters making themselves known and people supporting them for that. And I can certainly believe that many were Bernie supporters, cuz Bernie has a lot of young and restless supporters. But as I said, I like it even better if it wasn't just partisan but a general revulsion.

Again, thanks for letting us know how this developed! (But you needn't snipe at Bernie supporters the way you did. Don't the young always feel that "IT is about them..."?) (I'm 70.)

wants to make it "The Revolution saved the day." This had nothing to do with Hillary versus Bernie or who opposes Trump more.

My 58 year old cousin, who has been a vocal, in your face activist since she was a teen in the 70s went To Trump's rally by herself. She is a Hillary supporter, but shouted Bernie, Bernie when others started. Chicagoans protested together. She also hung with the Palestinians and the Mexicans that were there in solidarity against bigotry. She posted a video on Facebook. It was awesome.

I don't see where the protesters were anything other than people who don't like Trump. I imagine there are people of a lot of political persuasions who don't like him.

But since when is it a noble accomplishment to stifle the voices of those with whom one disagrees?

Would it be okay for Trump supporters to come to Sanders or Clinton rallies with the objective of shutting those down? And if not, can you explain the ethical or moral distinction?

If your distinction relies on some flavor of "but we are right and they are wrong", then I imagine they'd say pretty much the same thing.

Because they have been fed the line that Trump rally protesters have been violent, and they believe it. Accordingly, they will be violent, and they will believe they are doing the "same thing".

However, taking your claim at face value - i.e. Sanders supporters peacefully shut down a Trump rally - then wouldn't it make a lot more sense to "shut down" Clinton rallies, since she is the more immediate opponent?
