Surprise, Bernie Sanders Catches Flak From His Left Flank: “He’s Not Talking Socialism”

The People Who Think Bernie’s Too Moderate

Senator Sanders has been treated by the media as a polarizing candidate, one that even many on the left see as too extreme to support. But that is not the problem for Paul Street, the author of They Rule: The 1% vs. Democracy.

As someone who describes himself as a “radical socialist,” Street worries that Bernie is far too close to the entrenched power structure.

“I support some of the reforms that he’s for,” Street told WhoWhatWhy. “But he’s not talking about socialism at all, which is public ownership of the means of production, distribution, and finance.”

“From a Marxist perspective, no one that’s just kind of a liberal is going to do enough to get capitalism under control.”

pure socialism by any means, therefore is not 'pure enough' for the likes of Street.

But that's OK. He's a juggernaut and he's MY candidate.

stop saying that!!1)

I find it hilarious when people accuse regular folks like me - a Minnesota DFLer - as being an ultra radical leftist- when most of my stances are common platforms in the Democratic Farmer Labor Party (the Democratic Party in Minnesota). When people like me are called ultra radicals, you can be sure they've never actually met a Socialist, or read about left politics, Socialism or Communism.

I wish more people read political philosophy as well as history to understand where these movements come from. They don't appear in a vacuum. It would be quite illuminating for many rather than red baiting from fear and ignorance.

He may actually be a socialist, but his platform is definitely that of Democratic Socialism.

Bernie represents the right wing of the *socialist* political spectrum, hell he could almost be called *far right* for a Socialist.
