Related: About this forumRW media spin blaming Bernie supporters for the protest at Trump's Chicago rally
Given the vitriolic speech coming out of Trump rallies I don't see this hurting Bernie's campaign

Actually - I see this as a turning point for African American support for the Sander's campaign
The GOP Establishment has tried and failed to put a dent in Trump's support. Hillary's supporters have so far laid back and kept their "Powder Dry" anticipating a close race in the GE against Trump. So Sander's supporters had to step up and do what most people in this country know needs to be done and call attention to Trump's bigoted, divisionary politics.

(15,226 posts)Yes I am their enemy and do not need to be there. Donald Trump his supporters are hard core fascist. As for Mr. Sanders I would imagine his opinion of Fascism has solidified.

(14,733 posts)I'm still waiting for confirmation. Still, if there were Bernie supporters there protesting Trump, I say good on them, as well as on the non-Bernie supporter protesters.

(17,644 posts)and undoubtedly they were Younger more Invigorated demographic so I'm wondering how anyone could perceive them as anything but leaning towards Bernie.
Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)I'm saying it's been reported that some protesters there were there under another organization's aegis. I'm waiting to see if nadin gets clarification on who organized the protests.
FreakinDJ
(17,644 posts)Because 2 reporters on MSNBC just finished discussing all the Pro Bernie chanting during the protest last night.
Not that I'm saying your making it up. But rather those reports probably have Brook written all over them as that would be David Brook's favorite tactic of claiming Bernie's winning attributes for the Clinton campaign
Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)He/she noted that he'd seen reporting that it started out with BLM supporters, I think it was. That certainly doesn't mean the group weren't also Bernie supporters, just that maybe it wasn't specifically organized 'as' a 'Bernie counterprotest'.
FreakinDJ
(17,644 posts)I've been hearing MSNBC reporters all morning discussing the large dominance Bernie supporters at the protest last night

(1,342 posts)for Hillary and they have been taking every opportunity to spin things to cause harm to Bernie. They are NOT a trusted source.
FreakinDJ
(17,644 posts)so I am sure Team Hillary will try to spin it as some thing negative.
I just caught some Hillary surrogate spouting Hillary's talking points on MSNBC and virtually no mention of the protest last night

(12,977 posts)As I understand it, the speech was held at an inner city university with a heavily minority student body who did not feel their campus should be used for an event of that sort. As nearly as I can tell from their Facebook page and news stories before the event, the organizers were chiefly Hispanic and had support from the larger Hispanic community.
However, the original call was for a peaceful protest outside the event. I have not been able to find out whose idea it was to apply for tickets and protest inside the arena. And even they don't seem to have intended to shut it down. That was Trump's own decision, taken over the advice of law enforcement.
The crowds shown outside after Trump cancelled the event included people with Black Lives Matter slogans and others chanting "Bernie, Bernie, Bernie." But that's about three jumps away from claiming that Bernie supporters either organized the protest or aimed to shut down the rally.

(17,644 posts)and from looking at Bernie's twitter feed seems Trump supporters have taken it upon their selves to start slamming Bernie and his followers in light of last night's protest

But just like Hillary trying to mimic Bernie's political positions - I'm sure a few of them will try to claim credit.
Hell - I'm sure in the next couple hours Hillary herself will try to claim credit for stopping Trump last night

(7,299 posts)I venture to guess that Hillary and her other supporters feel the same.

That's pretty hardcore extreme right there I tell ya!

(7,299 posts)I said that the two groups going at it on the floor of the hall in Chicago last night were just two extreme factions. You projected Sanders into this.

(25,169 posts)I'm saying that the establishment this morning is taking advantage of the unrest of last night by shaping the story to blame the candidates the pose the greatest threat to them. It was not the unrest of last night but the narrative by MSM this morning.

It was the people OUTSIDE the event shouting BERNIE - where no one caused any problems.
Convenient Conflation by M$M, and others?

(50,170 posts)It might seem like bad press to some, but who is dominating all the news outlets again? Trump. The bottom line, is the protesters weren't violent. They were exercising their right to free speech (or collecting a pay check). If Herr Trump can't control nonviolent protesters, how does he expect to control Vlad?

(608 posts)The protesters were primarily students. The venue was on the campus of U of I in Chicago.
An undocumented Latino grad student started a petition (50,000 sigs) requesting the university not hold the venue on campus. Petition rejected - 4 days later the groups you describe above deployed to sections in the arena and played whackamole (my term) with security.
Rachel had a phone interview with the petition organizer last night as well as female Chicago newspaper journalist, who claimed that no Republican candidate, in her 30 year career, had ever spoken in that area of Chicago.
Rachel then presented an argument that the Trump campaign had set this situation up to happen.
BLM, Immigration reform and Bernie supporters were identified as participants.
They did what many students have done and I am proud of them for it.
