Unrecognizable

I was a bit stunned to find a thread on this site that basically warned us not to make too much of the Chicago incident. The poster told us to "chill out" and not make more of it than is necessary. I just don't understand how someone can watch what has been happening and not have the hairs on the back of their neck stand up.

Do you understand what Donald Trump represents? More importantly, are you aware of the mindset of the typical Trump supporter?

Donald Trump is a pathological liar. He rarely thinks before he speaks, preferring a sort of hate-filled stream of consciousness that is lapped up by his followers as gospel. He doesn't even have to be remotely truthful. And it doesn't matter one ounce to his followers.

I heard one of his followers state that he doesn't care what Trump says. He will support him regardless. What?! Wasn't there a time when just one of these untruths would guarantee a one-way ticket out of the race? Not with Trump. And the more his followers don't give a damn, the more he pushes the envelope.

Not having to adhere to any truth gives Trump an unfair advantage over every other candidate. It simply doesn't matter. And some of the lies are so outrageous, they are believed on the bases that nothing that outlandish can be a lie. This is crazy. It's a world that I no longer recognize.

To the original poster cautioning us not to over-react, I say that we cannot react enough to this phenomenon. Trump represents nothing less than a fundamental change in our culture, in the way we evaluate others. This is no small transformation and has the potential of damaging our social construct.

Have you, in your wildest imaginings ever thought that someone like a Donald Trump could be this close to the Presidency? If you did, you have greater insight than I have. This isn't what I thought America was about. I thought we valued truth and justice. I thought we admired honor and integrity. Apparently not.

We need to take a very close look at Trump, but not stop there. Examining the nature of his supporters is essential.

This is a huge issue. There is -- as horrible as it is to say -- a chance that Donald Trump could win the presidency in November. And as bad is he is, it's the forces that he is calling forth in Americans that would be the most disruptive ......things that he could not begin to control .....one that would severely damage the quality of life in this country, beyond the very real damage Trump himself would cause.

I really appreciate you posting this OP about the topic. This OP/thread should grow, with contributions and insights from everyone.

Don't you remember? It was unfashionable to talk about racism from 1980 to 2012 when Obama brought the issue to forefront. That's more than thirty years that this sentiment has been allowed to fester. And now the secret is out. We may be facing it for the first time out in the open, but these people have been thinking this way for generations.

It's almost as if it took someone like Trump to give them "permission" to express their true feelings.

Amazing...Maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

No we will not shut up, those kids were brave, they are heroes - unlike the keyboard warriors who want to paint them as the violent extremists.

Freedom of speech has limits, like shouting "fire" in theater. Wouldn't speech aimed at starting violence be somewhere in there?

I also wonder what are the legal statutes regarding when you can take away someone's citizenship and toss THEM out of the country?

As he says to his supporters "Get him out, throw him out, get him outa here."

we never actually expected anyone to yell fire in our social theater. And we are wholly unprepared on how to address it.

Where have you been?
Cheat & deceit have been ruling for a long time.
Verily this is why nobody cares that politicians lie. There is no standard of integrity, some thieves are simply better than others at appearing respectable.
Clintons Reagans Bushes & all that money.
Fear Fear Fear from both parties.
Lies from both parties.
We can't go backwards, integrity-wise. Obamas were progress. Clintons are not.

...I thought we at least endeavored to hold those values. In Trump's case, no effort is made to hold any values.

As an aside, the dishonesty of politicians seems to be accepted to a certain level (oh, that's just politics). Yet, with the arrival of Bernie Sanders to the race, the dishonesty is made clearer by contrast in that Bernie tends to always tell the truth...the exception to the rule.

of America is largely a myth left over fron ww2.

Content with the illusion everyone glosses over the truth; ie, the lies.

I was (accidentally) listening to the Alex Jones radio show. The guest was outstanding, the part I heard. He was emphasizing that corruption in govt needs to be outed and banished. I suspect whoever he was may be a bernie fan.
