Some GOP debate laughs

I thought the DU crowd would appreciate this one, especially if you find yourself tuned in to the GOP debate in Arizona tonight.

The remaining Republican presidential candidates meet tonight in Mesa, Ariz., for the first debate since the morality of contraception and Satan’s influence on American culture supplanted economic and national security issues in former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s verbal arsenal as he battles for the GOP nomination.

It’s hard to say what will be covered in tonight’s big showdown, but CNN has plenty of hot topics to choose from and can expect good ratings for the 8 p.m. EST debate (5 p.m. PST), which also will be streamed live online at CNN.com. CNN alludes to “intimate seating” in its online promotional materials for the debate, asking whether the seating arrangement will dissuade attacks or provoke them.

Does this mean the candidates will be seated close enough to each other to throw punches if tempers start flaring? That could make things doubly interesting, and isn’t that far out of the realm of possibility when one takes into account that President Obama recently met with boxing legend Muhammad Ali on the champ’s 70th birthday. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich may well sucker-punch someone, just to show he’s got a pair.
