2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMy 1st peek at the freeper website . . . what a complete clusterfuck!
HOLY SHIT . . . the freeper website is a complete clusterfuck . . . it is, graphically, a total mess! It looks like a 7 year old designed the site. I have a headache just from looking at it!
I won't bother to report on any of their nonsense. It's just too bat-shit crazy to repeat.
This makes me very thankful for the professionalism of DU. Not having been here very long, I guess I just took it for granted. THANK YOU, DU!
And now, I need a bleach bath!

(153,111 posts)one reason I have been donating to DU for over a decade is it keeps improving - the freak republic never evolves, just like its members

Not a positive trend for their funding model.

All that's left is an echo chamber of religious weirdness and truly obamidable racists.

Fleecing suckers. Is there anyone here who believes it costs $23K a month to run that shit hole of a website?

(21,551 posts)They could get a hosting account for about $15 per month that would likely cover all their needs.
Don't know why it would cost $2700. Or 5k for administration. Or 1000 for accounting.
And all those other expenses... all of that could be done for MUCH less.

It must be hosted on IBM.

(20,135 posts)For one thing, DU doesn't actually crash during big events like elections and debates. Sometimes it gets a bit slow, but I only remember DU actually being down a few times since I joined in 2004 and I don't believe any of them had anything to do with server load.

(21,551 posts)I hope they get audited by the IRS. If they are making claims of expenses on their tax forms, and can't back them up with receipts, I hope they get in big trouble. If they do have receipts showing all those expenses, then I feel sorry for them because they have been ripped off badly.

(1,773 posts)Sysadm @ $5K is Jim Rob
and $10K of Admin & Taxes are his wife and son.

(1,235 posts)It's quite the case study in social darwinism.
Anybody that strays too far to the left gets shouted down, gang-beat (metaphorically) and banned. Those that are remaining shift the needle a bit more right and shave off the next left-most, all the while self-reinforcing their ridiculous bullshit drivel.
