Cash Problems Continue for Clinton Primary Campaign

The reliance on fewer and richer donors, many of whom maxed out at $2700 long ago, has the Clinton campaign being outraised and out spent by Sanders. This is forcing Clinton off the campaign trail and back to fund raising.

As of Saturday night, Sanders was on the cusp of collecting his 5 millionth contribution — a record-breaking figure and more than double the number of donations that Clinton has received.
...
Clinton, meanwhile, has recently taken two valuable days off the campaign trail to raise money in California for use against Sanders now. In a one-week stretch later this month, she is scheduled to make seven fundraising stops in six states — Georgia, Tennessee, Connecticut, Virginia, Washington and California.

Early ad spends had little measurable impact as her ads perform poorly relative to Sanders'.

Clinton started spending money on ads last August, before any other candidate. She blew through more than $6 million in advertising in Iowa, where Sanders held her to an effective tie in the popular vote, and in New Hampshire, where he clobbered her by 22 percentage points.
...
Clinton is campaigning more extensively in Michigan than had seemed likely just a couple of weeks ago, spending four days here ahead of Tuesday’s primary. During a speech to Michigan Democrats in Detroit on Saturday night, Clinton congratulated Sanders on “running a strong campaign” but said she is pleased to have added to her overall delegate count.

Of course the WaPo spins this problem as Bernie's fault when the real problem is that Clinton can't get traction and uses ads done by endorsers and surrogates with her only presence being the "and I approve this message" tags. Sanders ads feature Sanders and they are a big factor in his come-from-behind win.

Here are the top-ranked 2016 presidential campaign ads as determined by Ace Metrix:

Mixed Field

"Social Security," Bernie 2016. Ace Score: 550
"Real Change (Revised)," Bernie 2016. Ace Score: 532
"Works For Us All," Bernie 2016. Ace Score: 523
"Mari," Bernie 2016. Ace Score: 519
"Real Change," Bernie 2016. Ace Score: 514
"Working Families," Bernie 2016. Ace Score: 512
"The Bottom 100 Million," Bernie 2016. Ace Score: 504
"Keith," Hillary for America. Ace Score: 504

Sanders has raise a lot but his burn rate is unsustainable. He really does think money grows on trees. So does Tad "1%" Devine.

6. Sanders spent 1.3 million in losing to Hillary in AZ who spent half of that.

If you measure dollars spent by delegates won I think Bernie is paying twice per delegate and is still far behind in the count.

I think getting more bang for the buck is better than pissing away money on a losing cause.

Also Hillary is raising money for other Dems and other Dem state delegations. Bernie's money is all for Bernie's edification.

Per Open Secrets:

Total Clinton spend: $211 mil
Ted Cruz $118 mil
Sanders: $96 mil
Trump: $34 mil

http://www.opensecrets.org/pres16/

Cost per delegate:

Clinton: $211 mil for 1214 delegates = $173k per delegate
Ted Cruz: $118 mil for 465 delegates = $253k per delegate
Sanders: $96 mil for 911 delegates = $105K per delegate
Trump: $34 mi for 739 delegates = $46K per delegate
