My afternoon at Bernie Portland rally!!

Good Friday. Two-day notice. Spring break.

Yet 15,000 or so people were rockin' and rollin' this afternoon in Portland's Moda Center. The joint was jumpin!

All kinds of people The majority seemed to be under thirty. People of all colors. Veterans. My seatmates and I turned to each other and remarked on this: We were in the middle of fifteen thousand excited people and we had NO fear of hate speech, of vulgarity, of bigotry, or of any violent acts. No fear.

The highlight of the afternoon: At one point the people in the mosh pit started pointing and murmuring about something. What?!

Down from the high high ceiling fluttered a brown bird, straight down to the podium. It startled Bernie for a moment. And then it landed right near his hands on the podium. And it sat there. Bernie did not miss a beat. "THIS BIRD IS LIKE A SIGN, A SYMBOL FOR US, FOR NO MORE WAR!!"

Pandemonium broke out.

I was so proud to support this honest man. So proud to be in that crowd of people. It was epic.

I will post photos in a few minutes. https://www.facebook.com/politico/videos/10153425109111680/

Symbolic Meaning Of Sparrow
As a worker, the sparrow teaches us to be vigilant, hard-working, and productive. In the wild, these birds are constantly working to ensure the comfort in their lives, collecting food and gathering. If we want to live happy and bountiful lives, the sparrow animal guide stresses the need for us to keep from being idle. We must work for what we want. By accomplishing things that we can be proud of, we will also continue to boost our self-esteem and sense of worth. The sparrow symbolism are also a wonderful symbol of protection and communal involvement, as they achieve their power through strength of numbers. Sparrows are not independent birds, but that is not to say that they are desperate or needy. On the contrary, these birds can be fierce in their own little way. They care very deeply for their community, and thus see the benefits of working together for common causes. The members of the clan teach each other to cooperate and evenly share responsibilities – something that we could all learn a lot from.

Sparrow Associated Traits
Powerful, Productive, Friendly, Persistent, Integrity, Simplicity, Caring, Creativity, Vigilant, Communal, Empowerment

The sparrow is also the symbol of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals; "for the sparrow is humble yet beloved by God."
St. Francis is who the current Pope (who shares many of Bernie's views) is named after.

The experience of no fear. I hadn't thought of it that way. What I am noticing is that the Sanders supporters all feel like friends.

You got to see history.
