New York Voters Whose Party Affiliation Was Dropped Can Change It By the End of Today

Huge problems plagued the Arizona primary earlier this week, with allegations of election fraud resounding across the Internet. People who said they were previously registered Democrat suddenly found their registrations inactive and couldn’t vote in the primary. Now people are discovering the same thing in New York. If your voter registration was changed or purged, you may only have until the end of the day today to do something about it.

Here’s what you need to know.

New York Voters Whose Party Affiliation Was Dropped Can Change It By the End of Today

Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner Douglas Kellner has said that any New York voter whose party affiliation was purged or is inactive can re-register by the end of the business day on Friday, March 25, and still be able to vote in the primary, according to a thread on Reddit that’s been tracking the issue. You’ve got to act fast though, if it’s you.

First, check your voter registration online. You can go here to see if your registration is active and if you are listed as affiliated with the right party. Remember that New York is a closed primary, so you can only vote within the party that you’re registered with. If you’re listed as inactive or unaffiliated, you may be able to change your registration today and still be able to vote. A New York voter registration form that you can print out is here, provided by the Bernie Sanders campaign, or here. You can find where to drop the form off here, but some offices are closed for Good Friday.

Registering online is also an option, but some are reporting that those may not be processed in time. However, if you have no way to drop off a voter registration form in person, it’s definitely better to change your registration online instead of not at all. You may also still be able to get your change to count if you mail your registration and it’s postmarked by today, March 25.

Remember, this deadline is for registering to vote for the first time or changing your party affiliation only if your affiliateion was purged or if you are listed as unaffiliated/inactive. If you are registered as a Republican, for example, you can’t change your party to Democrat and vote in the primary. That deadline was in October.

If you have found that your party affiliation was wrongly changed, consider reporting it to these sources and leave a comment below to let us know:
