CNN Recently Called Alaska the “Most Diverse Place in America.” Today When Bernie Sanders Won Alaska, CNN Called the State “Largely White”

According to CNN in January, Alaska’s diversity “may surprise folks from the Lower 48 who picture Alaska as a largely homogenous and snowy American extremity. But Alaskans are quite proud of their distinctive demographics.”

“There’s no white part of town. No Aleut village. Or Chinatown.”

“We all live together. Even white people like me. Think how it would be if the whole country had been organized like this. It does people good to break out of their comfort zone and mix with neighbors who are different.”

What a difference a month (and Bernie Sanders) makes!

Last week, Alaska was the “Most Diverse Place in America.”

This week, Bernie Sanders won the Alaska Caucuses, and the state suddenly became “Largely White and Rural.”

There are large parts of the south which Hillary won that are also very rural. Sparta GA for example still looks like it does when "In the Heat of the Night" was filmed there.

Got to fly in. Remote and rural. Biggest state, barely any people. You cannot drive to our Capital. You have to fly in. No roads.

I spent some time up there in the military. Very beautiful people and scenery.Should be on everyone's bucket list.

Edit: I'm not agreeing that it's the most diverse place in America. That's actually where I live and a proven fact BTW. Just that it's a very diverse place.

The article in question talks about one area, not the entire state http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/12/us/most-diverse-place-in-america/index.html?sr=tw061215akmostdiverse11pStoryGallPhoto

According to the Census, Alaska is 66% White, which isn't as white as some other states Sanders has carried but it is nonetheless majority white.

The OP and the article made out as if Alaska is the most diverse state in the union and that simply is not true. The actual CNN article was about one area of Alaska, not the whole state.

There are a very low percentage of blacks, though...and to some (particularly bullshit "journalists " with an agenda), only blacks seem to count as "minorities." Maybe Latinos.

Alaska, however is over 14% Native American and 5.5% Asian. Who apparently don't count...

Bernie just got 82% of the vote in a state that is less non Hispanic white than nationwide.

And word is that he'll be winning the least white state in the country, Hawaii.

Fortunately, I think we agree that the point is the same: he's doing well in diverse states. People are mistakenly lumping all POC into a big "minority" catch-all category, when it's obvious there are very different voting patterns between minority demographic groups. Saying "Bernie fails with minorities" is really saying "Bernie fails with blacks." And even that's not entirely true. A lot of African Americans have voted for him, and he does very well with young black voters.

DU search OK 'homogeneous' and you find it was repeated over and over again. OK is less lily white than the US, than Texas, than Illinois. They also say OK is 'sparsely populated and homogeneous' when OK is just about in the middle range of populations. Not all that sparse, not all that white. But the Native Americans do not count.

There is pre-pipeline and post-pipeline.
The Alaska prior the the huge influx of pipeline workers was a different place.
Red-neck, bible thumping ReThugs coming from Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas changed everything. (and not for the better) This true?
