2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy has Hillary been refusing to debate Bernie in New York?
I'd figure that she would want to debate there, with the home-team advantage.

(27,310 posts)Bernie still wants NY. Apparently, Hillary does not. And your article does not state that PA was part of any deal.
"I wanted a debate in New York City
.but Secretary Clinton has not agreed to do that. But I believe were looking at a debate in Pennsylvania
"
Saying, "I believe we're looking at a debate in Pennsylvania," does not mean that a deal had been made.

(4,111 posts)and there are many many people who don't know the issues, and don't know where the candidates stand on them. You're just hoping that they'll vote by name recognition.

(71,265 posts)Sorry but she will not give him a chance to attack her in prime time anymore.

(1,890 posts)Sounds like you're afraid that when voters hear Bernie they will drop her like an old shoe. Stand up for your candidate if you support her. She is running to be President of the United States why would she deny the people of NY a chance to see her in a head to head debate with her competitor?
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)noretreatnosurrender
(1,890 posts)Yeah it's much easier running against a candidate that the voters don't get to hear from. After all running for President is just a game isn't it? We don't need to have the informed consent of the voters. In fact, it's much more preferable to hide what a candidate really stands for otherwise they might not get elected. And winning is all it's about, right?

(1,890 posts)Everybody does have an opinion. I'm just glad that I don't support a candidate who has to tactically avoid debates because it may cause them to lose support among the voters. I'd rather support a candidate who does better the more people hear from him. But that's just my opinion.

(8,133 posts)to have more and more debates. Be sure to point out that your opponent is refusing to debate. Put a spin on it that they are "afraid."
noretreatnosurrender
(1,890 posts)That's all she's got folks - tactics! She sure isn't on the right side of the issues. She needs to trick people into voting for her by using tactics that don't allow them to see the real her or her opponent. It's sad and in my opinion cowardly. Here's what Bill Curry, former WH counselor to Bill Clinton, says about focusing only on tactics.

So her campaign particularly doesn't want a debate in NY; it's not just a matter of how many debates to have.
