2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary claims she would 'Get Things Done' if elected
By being 'pragmatic' and working with the GOP.
What are these 'things' she keeps talking about accomplishing? She never gives specifics. The GOP never, ever, compromise so what is it possible to accomplish with them? 'Grand Bargains, where they get 95% of what they want for a couple lukewarm, temporary concessions in return? More sequestration, where the 'unthinkable' is codified? Can any Hillary supporters out there tell us what 'things' she would get done by working and making deals with the GOP?
Thanks in advance.

(4,667 posts)I refuse to vote for a liar - especially a liar about trade deals effects on health care and education liar like Hillary has been.
I have never seen her utter a single word on GATS. You think she would, considering.
Unless she comes clean on that, ITS HOPELESS.
There is this huge guest worker program in GATS, people should know that. She likely is depending on that, a scheme to push down wages. When she says she'll fix something, its not by fixing it its by shafting us.

(45,251 posts)Not a single substantive bill or amendment she wrote became law and, having just left the White House and being spouse of the head of the Party (until Obama's election), she was arguably one of the most powerful Democrats in the country at the time. As First Lady, she got a Democratic Congress to reject Billarycare. As Secretary of State, YIKES!
She does, however, seem excellent at claiming ability to get things done and at taking credit for things other people got done. So, there's that.

(13,783 posts)"She never gives specifics."
I think the consensus (right, from "establishment" commentators.... but I prefer to keep my country in tact) is that she gives many more specifics than Bernie. And if you don't agree, compare their websites.

(13,783 posts)If you want specifics of how the Republicans will react to various overtures, and to which details will provide common ground, then you're expecting too much at this stage of the game. The point is, she has a history of being able to find common ground. No, I'm not going to list them here. Lots available on the web and even here in DU.

(22,336 posts)However, this kind of thing drives me crazy. Hillary supporters keep saying Bernie has no plan for how he's going to pay for things, or that he doesn't really stand for anything, when all of that information is clearly and easily available on his website. He has a plan, he stands for lots of things. And Hillary also has a website where she says what she plans to do, or get done. (And I know because I just checked to find out.)

(3,795 posts)See Bill Clinton's Presidency for the kinds of things that can get done with today's Republican Party.
I'd rather gridlock than getting things done on a bipartisan basis with Republicans because nothing good can come from working WITH today's Republicans.
Elected Democrats need to expose the current Republican Party for the agenda they want to unleash on this country instead of continuing to CLAMOR to work with them on a bipartisan basis (which legitimizes a Party which only deserves to be destroyed). This, of course, makes elected Democrats accomplices in what is happening, has happened, and will happen in this nation.
They could obliterate the Republican Party if they were truly fighting for the interests of average Americans. Instead, they prop them up and validate them. Repeatedly.
