Related: About this forumQuestion: What should your taxes pay for?
If taxes aren't spent on the military, which I would just assume as democrats we all support, what should we spend them on?
I understand some here think we shouldn't spend it on healthcare, or education.
So what would you, as democrats, prefer our discretionary spending to be?

(33,224 posts)Some amount of defense, police, fire etc. is necessary.
Some amount of foreign aid is necessary.
Some amount of social welfare is necessary.
Some amount of education is necessary.
Some amount of research and oversight is necessary.
Much of the amount we spend on the military is because we spent too little in other areas.

(1,772 posts)you should include TOTAL federal outlays (about $4 trillion) and not just "discretionary" programs, because taxes are used to fund both discretionary and mandatory items.

I assume, but maybe I shouldn't, that supporting veterans affairs is something democrats all support, but the actual military spending? 54%? I strongly question the assumption that democrats should support that kind of spending.
Cut it by minimum 10% ... preferably 90%, but we can compromise after the election
