fit that pattern. But then, let's face it, none of us on political forums fit any of the patterns of typical voters. Many people are just becoming aware that people seem to be talking about elections, or that they need to go register to vote. Or not.

Lack of enough enthusiasm to actually go vote has always been the problem with young voters. They need their tight little buns kicked around town a few times, but but instead many'll just learn to complain about "the establishment."

5% in 2008; similar numbers this time around.

Many of the rural voters had to drive for hours just to get to their caucus location. People without transportation or busy weekend schedules were out of luck.

So the caucuses in Alaska and WA, which also drew less than 6%, did not reflect average voter preferences. Just the most fervent -- or those with the most time on their hands, who had access to a vehicle.

Maybe because she doesn't have that many supporters here, period. And I can tell you that she doesn't, whether or not they showed up for the caucus.

They have busy lives. Plus those most involved know she has an almost unbeatable delegate advantage.

In any case, this poll shows they are just as enthusiastic, whether or not they could participate in the caucus.

I've read several people saying they didn't want to go to their caucuses because the thought of having to face the strident supporters of the other side was too much. Some people don't like confrontations, and to some, the idea of spending hours debating with the other side made them not go.

It would be interesting to see research into caucus attendance vs primary voting - why only single-digit % of voters go to caucuses vs 50+% voters who vote in primaries (percentages of those who actually voted in the previous election, not registered voters.) As you may know, I am an ardent opponent of caucuses because I find them undemocratic and disenfranchising.

Young people are famous for not wanting to stay home when they can be out. And they were well-trained in school to scream and cheer on demand.

Their older brothers and sisters and their parents and their grandparents are famous for being glad to get home and not having to go out. The ones I know at least are far less likely than their kids to jump up and down and scream about anything. That's not how those citizens show their enthusiasm. They are famous for voting in higher, more reliable numbers -- that greater fervor thing.

There goes the meme about "zombies" at Clinton rallys (I've been to a couple, and if those are zombies, we all need to change our views of zombies!). There goes "Sanders is the people's choice" (but we already know who's winning).

Oh, and K&R!

These findings are from Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted March 21-23 with 1,358 registered voters, including 635 Republicans and independents who lean Republican, and 610 Democrats and Democratic leaners. The poll coincided with the March 22 Democratic primaries that resulted in two wins for Sanders and one for Clinton, but preceded Saturday's voting in Alaska, Hawaii and Washington state -- which Sanders swept.

Overall, 47% of registered voters nationwide say they are extremely or very enthusiastic about voting this year. That is down from 54% in January, but is slightly higher than the 42% level of enthusiasm recorded in March 2012.

Separately, Gallup asked voters how much thought they have given to the election -- an important past indicator of voter turnout. Here Gallup finds that the various candidates' supporters are paying fairly similar attention to the election. Three-quarters of Clinton and Sanders supporters say they have given quite a lot of or some thought to the election, along with 79% of Cruz supporters and slightly higher percentages of Trump (83%) and Kasich (85%) supporters.

Flogging the enthusiasm gap as if it favors Bernie, rather than Hillary.

BTW - they're reporting that a college ID won't be accepted as a valid ID in WI on Tuesday. People heading to the DMV today to secure proper ID. This situation does not favor BS.
