Related: About this forumDebates: First she agreed to them but....
....she was just lying like she always does? Is that the take away here?
This is the most bullshit quote for a campaign I've ever read:
The debates have been very good, but Senator Sanders doesnt get to decide when we debate, particularly when hes running a very negative campaign against us. Lets see if he goes back to the kind of tone he said he was going to set early on. If he does that, then well talk about debates, but were not going to talk about it Benenson said.

She agreed to debates in April and May. She's a snake and the worst kind of politician.

(34,648 posts)Ok. That is 'Tyrone the Crackhead' from Dave Chapelle's show. Hmm. I cannot believe you find that funny.
NWCorona
(8,541 posts)Yes Tyrone was a funny character and there's no way that Hillary's a crackhead so save the outrage.
I thought it was funnY they reused that Daredevil meme as I use it all the time.

(108,976 posts)What about Pennsylvania? Delaware? New Jersey?
We didn't have a debate in WA but no one here was complaining.
It's up to her if she wants any more, but she has never committed to one in NY. And they've already had 8 debates and 10 Town Halls -- all of which were broadcast nationally.
Enough already.
ljm2002
(10,751 posts)...the post I was responding to asked: "Do winning campaigns ever complain that the losers refuse to debate them?"
Right now the Clinton campaign is making noises like they don't intend to have any debate before the New York primary.

(108,976 posts)ljm2002
(10,751 posts)...regarding the Sanders campaign's request for a debate in New York before the New York primary, yes. But Benenson's refusal was broader and mentioned the time but not the place:
Benenson was refusing to discuss debates at all, as is clear from the above and is even clearer in the video.
Even his interviewer recognized that he was completely deflecting by trying to make it all about how Bernie is running his campaign, and claiming that Bernie should be limiting his criticisms to Republicans, which is just nonsense given that we're only a little more than halfway through primary season.
Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)He's in no position to make demands.
He needs to tone down his attacks and then maybe Hillary will consider debating him.
ljm2002
(10,751 posts)...he has to "start behaving himself", or she need not honor the agreement that she has already made.
Disgusting, childish, authoritarian horseshit.

pnwmom
(108,976 posts)There was talk of doing another one in April, but CT, MD, RI, DE, and PA also have primaries that month.
Maybe she'd prefer to spend the time campaigning in states where she isn't already so well known.
...but Benenson is refusing to talk about any debates at all, until he decides that Bernie's campaign is "behaving".
That is condescending and rude and betrays a lack of boundaries. Does Benenson seriously expect Bernie's campaign to take direction from him? I mean, come on.
Ultimately, it just makes Hillary look weak if she can't handle a debate in her own state.
So I guess I'll just go with "Please proceed, Madam Secretary."

(19,926 posts)Good lord. How anyone supports this sort of person is beyond me. She acts just like the Republicans.
Which reminds me, make sure you are eligible to vote or have a record of having registered as needed well before your primary. There's a lot of voter purging going on.

Oooo! And Bernie's the one whose "tone" is somehow bad.
Face it Hillary. You don't want a debate because you are afraid you'll get floor mopped by Bernie. On policy and your insidious history.
Try brushing that off your shoulders. Well, you seem to be doing that by saying no more debates. Is that the honorable way to do things? Or are you just trying to game the system because "it's my turn".
My prayer is that this backfires on you. Like in 2008, you are the worst candidate in the Democratic presidential race. Your only saving grace is that you are marginally better than what the GOP is offering.
From my take, that margin is mighty thin. The national polls seem to agree with me.

(108,976 posts)Are you referring to the video where he rudely waves Jane back and tell her "Don't stand there"?
longship
(40,416 posts)It was David Brock's interpretation of the video, that somehow this makes Bernie some kind of an evil misogynist asshole. This is right out of the Rove playbook.
And the extent that Hillary does not own this and apologize is the extent that her campaign are a bunch of weasels. BTW, anybody who denies that David Brock is in her inner campaign circle is delusional.
Hillary owns these lies!
Then she has the unbridled hubris to criticize Bernie's "tone.
What a despicable thing to do!
For this alone, Hillary Clinton is a horrible person.

(40,416 posts)I am limited to an iPhone, so searching for it is problematic.
But trust me, unlike David Brock, I am not making this shit up.
There really is a good explanation for this, too. Bernie uses his arms a lot when he speaks. Just maybe he didn't want to poke Jane's eye out.
See? There is a more prosaic explanation than Bernie is a wife abusing misogynist.
Much ado about nothing if you ask me. Exploited by the Hillary Clinton campaign! (who seem to have no ethics whatsoever)
And yup! It was Brock who started it.
pnwmom
(108,976 posts)to poke the eye out of someone standing behind you, but okay. I don't know what Brock said but Bernie seemed impatient and gruff to me -- in a "Get off my lawn!" kind of way. But I know being a curmudgeon is considered a plus for him.
longship
(40,416 posts)One thing is for sure, Brock's (AKA, Hillary's) narrative is, by definition a horrible "tone" which means that her claim on debates is horrible hypocrisy.

(7,231 posts)to bear for just a few months, maybe she should bow out to the SENATOR who can campaign WITHOUT BIG DONORS and still looks happy to be interrupted by finches.
If what you say is true, God help us when someone as easily tired and unsettled (not to mention as vindictive) as - you say - Clinton should try to be president for four years.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
The admins of DU have asked that we tone down attacks on Democratic presidential candidates. Calling one of them a "snake" hardly seems to meet that standard. A hide will help send the message.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Mar 29, 2016, 06:52 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: So we can't talk about her not wanting to do the debates she agreed to and express dislike for her decision? She isn't the nominee yet.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Its not name calling for the sake of it, the guy is making a point. Just argue back instead of censoring him.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Really disgusted with the BB right wing rhetoric against HRC. Go to the Cave for that garbage.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT

(37,428 posts)The front-runner may be too gracious to try to renegotiate personally, but it would be a poor campaign manager who didn't try for a little extra leverage.
If the candidate herself doesn't "clarify" soon, though, she'll own this stonewalling.
