Tim Canova, a law professor and Federal Reserve expert, jumped into the Democratic primary in January, challenging Wasserman Schultz from the left. At that time, my Intercept colleague Glenn Greenwald interviewed Canova, revealing multiple contrasts between his opposition to bank bailouts, corporate-written free trade agreements and the Patriot Act and Wasserman Schultzs support of those policies.
Populist primaries of entrenched incumbents dont usually get the attention of the White House, because success for the challenger is so remote. Obama very rarely involves himself in House primaries. That he felt the need to endorse Wasserman Schultz suggests that Canovas message is gaining traction in her district.
The endorsement comes fully five months before the primary and days before the end-of-the-quarter deadline for Federal Election Commission reporting. While Wasserman Schultz has never needed help soliciting campaign contributions from wealthy donors, the presidential endorsement has the appearance of a vote of confidence to ensure the continued flow of money.
We welcome the hatred of the pro-corporate Democrats.

How to notify MIRT about a potential MI, troll
Last edited Fri May 29, 2015, 02:54 PM - Edit history (1)
If you see a troll, a MI, or serve on a jury and think MIRT should get notice you have a couple options to let them know.
1. If a post is hidden by 4/3 or more of a jury and the poster has under 100 posts, MIRT will get notice. If a post is not hidden, they will not. If the vote is Leave, MIRT will NOT get notice.
Simply writing in the comments things like this and leaving will not necessarily get notice to MIRT unless enough others vote to hide or someone sends a team member a pm.
"If it's a troll leaving then the troll will be dealt with by MIRT."
2. Send a MIR team member a message. There is always a link to the current team in Announcements forum.
Thank you.
ETA, MIRT takes care of those under 100 posts so for those worried about trying to get rid of long term DUers, that is up to Admin.

(6,397 posts)DWS gets lots of attention because of a lot of legitimate reasons, but a lot of what people are going on in this particular instance feels like CT kind of stuff.
I mean, really, is it shocking - no matter the time - that the President endorses the person he put in charge of the DNC? It's a no-brainer. And if he waited until later in the primary to do it, it would look even worse in the eyes of some in that he's not backing his own horse.
I swear, it's like political newbies rule the day lately.

(31,700 posts)Obama has been great on a lot of issues, but on economics he's, frankly, sucked. The guy prioritized bailing out Wall Street and then sold out the entire Democratic Party to push his authoritarian 'free' trade agreement - i.e. corporate governance agreement.
His pro-Wall Street politics is why we are very close to a Presdient-elect Trump. We are either going to get economic populism or authoritarian populism. This kind of crap is going to backlash.

(24,692 posts)Adding a new wrinkle in an already unpredictable election year, Donald Trump saw his poll numbers plummet on Monday after receiving a surprise endorsement from President Barack Obama. The long-awaited downfall of the abrasive billionaire came in startling fashion, as few had expected the President to offer a full-throated endorsement of Trump ...
Praising the Republican front-runner during a nationally televised address, the President said that, despite media reports to the contrary, Trump shared his views on such important issues as immigration and religious tolerance. In every way that matters, Donald and I are on exactly the same page, Obama said, pointing to a framed picture of the billionaire on his Oval Office desk.
Concluding his endorsement with an emphatic closing argument, Obama said, If you love me, vote for Trump.
In several G.O.P. polls taken after the Presidents stunning endorsement, Trump sank from first to fifth place ... As news of the Presidents endorsement spread, former Trump supporters across the nation gathered to vent their anger, with some burning signs, trucker hats, and other campaign paraphernalia at impromptu bonfires.
