Clinton: With Trump, Republicans Reap What They’ve Sown

Hillary Clinton argued Monday that Senate Republican leaders’ refusal to consider President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee is just the latest symptom of the same illness that has put Donald Trump on a path to the party’s presidential nomination.
In challenging the nomination of Merrick Garland, Republicans are showing “the same disregard for the rule of law that has given rise to the extremist candidacies of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz,” the Democratic front-runner said at the University of Wisconsin at Madison during a speech focused on laying out her views on the high court.
Clinton said she agrees with many in the Republican establishment who “say a Trump nomination will set their party back decades.” It all started with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s vow to obstruct Obama which, she said, led to Trump’s “racist campaign to discredit the president’s citizenship” and to Cruz’s “strategy to hold the government hostage to get his way.”
