Chairman confident Bernie will be on the D.C. ballot, despite the District's screw-up

in the paperwork.

Yes this is from Faux news, but it's the most up to date report on this issue.

http://fox40.com/2016/03/30/sanders-will-likely-be-on-d-c-ballot-despite-challenge/

Anita Bonds, chairwoman of the Washington, D.C. Democratic Party, said Wednesday she was confident presidential candidate Bernie Sanders would appear on the primary ballot, despite a challenge filed with the city’s Board of Elections.

“Bernie will be on the ballot,” Bonds told CNN.

Her comments come after NBC 4 in Washington reported the local Democratic Party filed paperwork for Sanders a day late to the Washington Board of Elections and a challenge was filed against Sanders. It’s the first time Bond said she has heard of a candidate being challenged.

But the Sanders campaign also said it was confident he would appear on the ballot.

He'll be on the ballot and DC may make a difference in the race. Who knows.

I recommend that someone in D.C. file a similar challenge to Clinton appearing on the ballot. Challenging both candidate's access to the ballot ensures that this problem has the best chance of being fixed. Because this is the first time this has happened, Bonds has no basis for her confidence-there is no precedent for what kind of decision may be the outcome of the challenge. Should both challenges then succeed, both candidates will be eliminated from the ballot, instead of just Sanders, which would be an equitable outcome. I am reminded of Clinton's actions regarding the 2008 Michigan primary and don't believe Sanders should take a unilateral risk like this.

But I think she'll succeed.

Bonds said the party’s deadline is a few hours after the Board of Elections closes, so the staff usually delivers the filings the next day, which has been the standard in the past, but this time, someone challenged Sanders.

Bonds said she would submit a “clarification” in the city rules that would allow a 24-hour grace period after the filing deadline, putting Sanders on the ballot, according to CNN.
