The former President told The New York Daily News that he did the same thing in 2008 when Hillary Clinton lost the nomination to then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL).
"It happened last time, Clinton told the newspaper. Last time I did what my candidate asked, I voted for Barack Obama.

(8,166 posts)To support Hillary if she gets the nomination?
Or have I bought into the cynicism?
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)That he decided to not vote for his own wife at the DNC--think about that.
I do agree. I just thought I'd toss out the cynic's view before someone else thinks of it.

It's not super magnanimous to cast a vote for a winning nominee who has already been determined.

(4,176 posts)Oh, by the way, I dont give two shits about any of them at the end of the day, but you see I do give two shits about women and minorities and voting rights and so on.
Therefore, well you know the rest.

(5,417 posts)Of course he didnt vote for her. It would have seemed petty and achieved nothing. She had already lost and dropped out of the race.

(154,021 posts)and this is exactly what will happen if Bernie supersedes the Delegate count. It has since the 1970s.
It is not pressure, it is political fact by the way.

(3,937 posts)Isn't it too late then? What does that even mean since delegate votes are how you win the nomination?

(39,171 posts)I suspect that is what he meant - that he would vote for the candidate that had the most pledged delegates.

(6,473 posts)unless he's talking about getting the 2300+ Pledged delegates before the convention. The scenario to look at is what happens if neither has 2300+ AFTER all the primaries and caucuses are completed. In this scenario the Super Delegates will decide the nomination because 50% of the Pledged Delegates is not enough to win the nomination. You need 50%+ of Pledged Delegate AND several hundred Super Delegates

(25,168 posts)'his superdelegates' Huh!!!!
dsc
(52,130 posts)it means his superdelegate vote.

(506 posts)If the superdelegates' votes are part of determining who the nominee is, then how can a superdelegate, even Bill, withhold their vote until after the nominee is chosen? And at that point it doesn't matter anymore.. what is bill trying to pull here?
hack89
(39,171 posts)because there are only two candidates one of them will enter the convention with a majority of pledged delegates. The super delegates, including Bill, will then vote for the person since they won the most delegates.
Triloon
(506 posts)So, if Bernie shows up at the convention with a majority of pledged delegates then Bill will give him his superdelegate vote? I doubt that very much, and it's not what he said. My point is that no one wins the nomination until after the supers vote, so Bill's statement here seems to be both irrelevant and misleading.

(16,685 posts)And I find myself in rare agreement with Bill here. The superdelegate votes should go to whoever has the delegate lead going in to the convention.
