Gillibrand's tearful plea to Bernie: Give up your gunsNew York's junior senator, in an interview for POLITICO's 'Off Message' podcast, says that Sanders lacks the 'sensitivity' to understand how gun violence devastates families.

His option? Change positions. Thats what Kirsten Gillibrand, a proud, passionate turncoat on guns, urges her Senate colleague from Vermont to do for the sake of his politics and, you know, his immortal soul.
I was somebody who was not as focused on this, as I should have been, as a House member. Meeting these families devastated me, broke my heart, said Gillibrand, when I suggested she switched positions as a matter of political expediency in a deep-blue state where most Democrats favor stringent gun restrictions.
Gillibrand, a 49-year-old mother of two young sons not prone to public expressions of emotion, began to cry in mid-sentence. Its so crippling I mean, I sat down with a mother last week in Brooklyn, and she lost her 4-year-old baby she took her kid to a park, she said. Every mom takes their kid to a park. And she took her kid to a park and the kid was killed, a baby, a 4-year-old [Sanders] doesnt have the sensitivity he needs to the horror that is happening in these families. I just don't think he's fully getting how horrible it is for these families.

(39,369 posts)That's the way he comes off at least.
As an aside, people who complain about Hillary in the debates obviously aren't seeing what I see; zero listening skills and no tolerance for dissent. When he isn't wagging his finger, he's talking over people. We grow folks like that around here in New York like lawns in the summertime. They don't make good leaders.

(34,169 posts)That's why repealing PLCAA is so important to them. They know that they will eventually get a jury or judge who will be swayed by emotions rather than the law and find a gun manufacturer or small-time gun shop liable for the act of a criminal.

Just curious. I remember it was a big deal when made that comment. Keeping loaded rifles under her bed is not exactly what I would call a responsible gun owner.

Its a despicable thing to say that as if it were true.
