Bernie Or Bust: Sanders Supporters Vow To Hold Out

By Jeff Zeleny, Senior Washington Correspondent

Philadelphia (CNN)Three words are hanging over the final days of the Democratic presidential race: Bernie or bust.

"When you say Bernie or bust, that means if we don't get Bernie, we're just not going to automatically vote for the demon because you're saying the devil may be there," said Billy Taylor, who is organizing a coalition of Bernie Sanders supporters to protest at the Democratic convention here in July.

Sanders has inspired a movement, but it's unclear whether he can control it. Or if he wants to.

After the final wave of states vote next Tuesday, Sanders has one decision to make. His supporters have another. And many insist they will not fall into line behind Hillary Clinton.

"You can't expose the corruption of the political system and then expect us to get behind that same political system," said Gary Frazier, a leader of a group called Black Men for Bernie, who is also organizing Sanders supporters here in Philadelphia.

1. These people represent a small minority of Bernie supporters with outsized vocal cords

When I volunteered for Bernie in my home state, I did not meet a single volunteer who said they would not vote for Hillary in the general. Some said they would have to hold their nose, but nobody had a "Bernie or Bust" attitude, and certainly nobody was going to vote for Trump. And this is in a solidly blue state where even I might be tempted to cast a protest vote (but probably won't) because my vote doesn't matter.

That's not to say there are not Bernie supporters who won't vote for Hillary, but those people probably would never have voted for Hillary if Bernie hadn't run at all.

2. "Billy Taylor" - the guy with the permit in Philly. "Movement" not even remotely.

A movement self-sustains. This so-called movement is fizzling daily. And yes, not voting for the Democrat nominee by staying at home, or voting for some other third or forth party candidate, is just like voting for Trump. Oh, and about Philly, I'd suggest you stay away form the union building tradesmen and women. They are all backing Hillary and really won't take any shit from anybody about it. They will have a very strong presence in Philly, so when the shouting at them starts, it won't be pretty.
