Small-dollar contributions have been the fuel that has propelled Sen. Bernie Sanders presidential bid, making it one of the most successful insurgent campaigns in Democratic party history, but little has been known about those donors because campaigns dont have to publicize the names of people who give $200 or less.
Now, a Times analysis of nearly 7 million individual contributions has provided unprecedented detail about the army of people behind the $27 donations Sanders mentions at virtually every campaign stop.
Many resemble Emily Condit, 40 of Sylmar, who has contributed three times $5 each to the Vermont senators campaign.
Condit, who has several physical disabilities, is among the largest single group of Sanders donors those who dont have a job. Of the $209 million given to the Vermont senators campaign, about one out of every four dollars came from those not in the workforce, who include the unemployed or retired.
"Bernie Sanders is running on a platform to lift up the have-nots and to improve the system of government we have, so that no one will ever be left behind."
Emily Condit, a Sanders donor from Sylmar
Clinton is less reliant on small-dollar donors, who accounted for about 20% of her fundraising haul, and a similar analysis of the Democratic front-runners small donors is not possible because she has not leaned upon a conduit such as ActBlue.
Not surprisingly, Sanders gets very little money 2% of his overall haul from Wall Street, which he frequently criticizes as corrupt and responsible for creating a rigged economy.
Yep.

We all know you donated directly along with bundles of other donations that seem to be far ahead of what your salary alone would dictate. You did invite us to check it out.

(27,813 posts)... become the only way people can donate to HRC?
Live and Learn
(12,769 posts)I made donations directly to Bernie but also through the DU link. I would think most duers would do something similar.
I also campaigned every weekend for Bernie and never ran across any Hillary supporters campaigning. I don't think her campaign generates much enthusiasm at all.

(27,813 posts)... that there aren't many Hillary supporters left here, and that most HRC supporters don't want to donate through this site.
Hill's campaign generated enough support to get her the nomination. Bernie's apparently didn't.
The fact that you think DU is a "good barometer of how much people are donating", or that you "never running across Hillary supporters campaigning" is somehow meaningful speaks for itself.
You must be new to politics, or incredibly naive.
Live and Learn
(12,769 posts)Funny, you saying Hillary supporters wouldn't want to donate through DU and there aren't any left here since it seems the site is geared toward them.
The numbers are quite easily found and Bernie did an excellent job of raising money through us little people. Bernie has proven that politics can be run honestly and paid for by the people. I look forward to getting more people candidates in office and bringing our party back to its roots.
NanceGreggs
(27,813 posts)... that DU is 85% BSers and 15% HRCers. So saying this site seems "geared towards" Hillary supporters is rather laughable.

(12,769 posts)posts that shouldn't be hidden are hidden based on obvious stalkings by Hillary supporters; and the new rules disallowing anything negative about Hillary before the nominee is chosen.

(27,813 posts)... years ago.
Here's some simple math for you: If 85% of the posters are BS supporters, that means 85% of the jury pool is BS supporters.
Now, think it through - how often do you think HRCers got posts hidden by a jury that was 85% BSers?
How often do you think BS posts were a "leave" because only 15% of the jurors were HRCers?
