right before their primary.

What a coincidence!

Sanders said Thursday that he will introduce his own legislation to help the island. His bill would allow the Federal Reserve to give the territory emergency loans and provide broad bankruptcy protections, unlike legislation approved by a House committee last week that would create a control board to oversee limited debt restructuring. Sanders’ bill would also boost Medicaid and Medicare payments to the island and designate $10.8 billion to rebuild the territory’s crumbling infrastructure.

There's graffitti in Condado (swanky and reliably "safe" area in downtown SJ where the tourists congregate, always used to be a cop every fifty feet). You can detect a miasma of desperation.

Hundreds leave daily, and they're not all going to PR-North (NYC) anymore.

The PR population in Florida can only be described as "burgeoning." They could make a difference in the general election, but--despite what seems logical--their political loyalties are all over the map.

They need help NOW. If he's serious about introducing legislation, then he needs to go back to DC and do it, not talk about it as a campaign bullet.

Also, since all appropriations begin in the House (Ways and Means holds the purse-strings), anything he writes has to go to the House, get their stamp, and then come back to the Senate. But never mind....the damn REPUBLICANS have already fired up some legislation...so what hope does he realistically think his "planned" bill might have...if he ever gets around to writing/submitting it?

House Unveils Bill To Help Puerto Rico Deal With Its Debt Crisis
Hopefully the third draft will do the trick.

This bill has a lot of GOP 'suckage' in it but we don't have the numbers to pass anything we dream up, so we'll have to live with what we've been dealt (and there are a few mealy compromises in it that we asked for) until we are Large and In Charge again.

Fri Jun 3, 2016, 01:09 PM

One could ask--if they were being equally petty-- You whining? AGAIN?" -- but that's just descending to your level.

It is "fair game" to question an east coaster's sudden enthusiasm for a west coast team, playoffs, or no. Particularly when that person is a politician who has never ONCE mentioned a fondness for said team, and who says his stock in trade is being "genuine" and "authentic" and not part of the "establishment." What's more "establishment" than rooting for one of those big corporate basketball teams, with all their sponsors and sneakers and product placement and zillion dollar salaries? If he wants to see some hoops, go to a college or high school game--you can see talent gutting it out at smaller venues, too.

But hey--you won't be on NATIONAL TV if you do that.

Only those who are hyper-sensitive to criticism of their hero would turn around and snarl "You mad?" at someone for noticing what is--to anyone sentient--the obvious.

I am counting the days, and I recognize a blatant pander when I see one.

Sitting down in the rich people's seats in order to be easily photographed by the TV franchises covering the game was a (not well thought out) pander. Lots of cognitive dissonance going on!

He would have been better off in the cheap seats--like, say, at a bar, having a beverage, and watching the game with Henry Lunchbox and Syvia Brownbag. It probably would have been a better look.

When she was in the WH she liked her hot sauce and those burn-your-mouth peppers. This is not new.

And she got that drawl down living in Arkansas.

I don't know if she puts the stuff on ice cream (I knew someone who used to do that) but it's not a new affectation for her to enjoy her meals a-la-"flame ON."

Anyone who knows about her knows this.

Don't believe me? Jump in the way back machine...let's go back to 2008....and earlier:

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/12/hillarys-health-plan-hot-peppers/?_r=0

“I eat a lot of hot peppers,” she told CBS News anchor Katie Couric, who had asked her how she maintains her stamina on the campaign trail. “I for some reason started doing that in 1992, and I swear by it. I think it keeps my metabolism revved up and keeps me healthy.”

Nutritionists say Mrs. Clinton may be on to something. Although the scientific study of hot peppers is limited, there are some suggestions that capsaicin, the active ingredient in peppers, has numerous health benefits.

For starters, peppers contain several important nutrients, including beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and vitamin C, said Jonny Bowden, a board-certified nutritionist and author of “The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth.” In fact, peppers contain about twice the amount of vitamin C found in citrus fruits, which may help explain why they have emerged as a popular home remedy for fighting colds

Much of the research on capsaicin involves pain relief, and capsaicin is a common ingredient in over-the-counter pain creams. The analgesic effect of the capsaicin found in peppers may help explain why Mrs. Clinton believes it makes her feel better.

“People on those kinds of schedules, they are wearing their body down and not sleeping much,” Dr. Bowden said. “Possibly it could be like taking a couple of aspirins.”

Hot peppers also may slightly boost the metabolism, which could give Mrs. Clinton a sense of having more stamina and energy. “If you ate a big hot pepper, it would be hard to go right to sleep,” Dr. Bowden said.

That was written EIGHT YEARS AGO.

I was working in DC during the Clinton years and remember hearing that about her--that she liked those make-you-cry peppers and liked to sample different hot sauces. I am a fan of the hot-n-spicy myself, but I think she makes me look like a piker in terms of the heat she can withstand.
