The "New Dems" have assassinated FDR: In Conn. Democrats are Repubs; GOP are Dems

Last edited Sun Jun 12, 2016, 02:05 PM - Edit history (2)

Read the following story, and try to wrap your brain around the fact that it is the Conn. Democratic governor (Malloy) who has happily caved into a demand from a multi-billion dollar hedge fund to grab taxpayer $$$, while it is the state's Republicans who are sounding like FDR (though I don't believe they are particularly sincere).

Can someone please answer this question : Why does the world's biggest hedge fund, owned by billionaires, need $22 taxpayer million?

Republicans criticize Malloy over $22M grant to Bridgewater
Ken Dixon May 23, 2016

HARTFORD — Minority (Republican) leaders of the House and Senate on Monday criticized Gov. Dannel P. Malloy (who is a Democrat) over the scheduled approval of $22 million for Bridgewater Associates, LP the world’s largest hedge fund. But Malloy said the funding, which is slated for approval Friday in the State Bond Commission, is a way to foster business growth at a crucial time for the state.

(snip)

House Minority Leader Themis Klarides, R-Derby, and Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano, R-North Haven, both issued statements criticizing the planned $22-million grant and loan, which is on the Friday agenda of the bond commission. Malloy is chairman of the 10-member panel, which allocates capital investments.

(snip)

The award requirements would include retaining 1,402 jobs in the state. If it adds 750 new positions by 2021, the loan would be forgiven, according to the State Bond Commission. The funding includes a $2 million grant to help the company in training; The company could also become eligible for up to $30 million in urban tax credits, which Fasano said would be unfair to other companies that might need the help at a time when Bridgewater is flourishing.

(snip)

“The priorities of Democrat leaders in this state are twisted,” Fasano said. “Connecticut is in financial crisis and people are suffering. The Democrats just passed a budget that cuts from the most vulnerable individuals in society. It cuts millions from Connecticut’s welfare program, it reduces dental treatment for the poorest children in our state, and it cuts over $8 million for critical mental health and substance abuse treatment. We are talking about tens of millions of dollars in handouts for a company that abandoned plans to build in Stamford, yet continues to reap the benefits of an agreement they backtracked on. We are also talking about one of the largest hedge funds in the world with a multi-billionaire owner. Tens of millions of dollars to us is mere pennies to them. Yet, while the state has pulled back from other promised funding, Democrat leaders continue to protect Bridgewater at the expense of so many others.”

sees that and is sadly filling that void for some. TPTB in the democratic party remain ever so clueless, so damn DUH. ... or, it's precisely what they want as none want to see their gravy train disrupted. I'm disgusted with the democratic party of today.

So that some McMansion-owning hedge fund worker, whose job it was to figure out ways to fleece Main Street, would have simply have had to relocate to a neighboring state?

(BTW, you are the very same "PeaceNikki" who defended Wisconsin GOP election improprieties a few years ago, correct? Some of us have good memories.)

Defended GOP all the way.

1400 jobs for 22 million. It would be more efficient to make those 1400 jobs government jobs doing work to restore the environment, react to Global Warming, hand count ballots, health care for elderly or many other public service jobs.

Been a Dem all my life. I'm seriously considering becoming an Independent. I assume that I'm not alone in this consideration.
