We need 60 to take the Senate and that is not in the current thinking. CK_John Jun 2016 #6
No, we need 51 or 50 and a VP to retake the Senate . You need 60 to stop a filibuster. Agnosticsherbet Jun 2016 #8
Everything is now a filibuster and 60 has been the norm for about 6yrs. CK_John Jun 2016 #10
Actually, they change the rules in 2013, and the Republicans have discussed gutting them. Agnosticsherbet Jun 2016 #13

I think we have a good shot at retaking the Senate, so a Democratic President will have help.

I expect the next time Republicans try to control everything the filibuster goes away.
With 51, we get to control the agenda in the Senate.

Here's Why Today's Filibuster Rule Change is a Big Deal

House conservatives push McConnell to gut filibuster

So they are not written in stone.

And with control of the Senate, Democrats would gain control of the legislative agenda in the Senate. It is important who is in control.

Hopefully having just buried Trump in an electoral landslide, the new POTUS would have some momentum, and the Senate should be very tight if not Dem.

So yes, those races are crucial. The next 4 years will likely set the court's direction for the next 10 years at least, maybe 20.

It won't hurt the red staters too badly, but the ones in so-called "purple" states like Kelly Ayotte in NH have to be inwardly screaming at having that jerkwhistle be the standard-bearer this fall.

I wasn't either; I am pointing out that the Congress will not be the same. Hillary has a good chance at having a Democratic Senate back, at least.

for impeachment from the House ( which will not change
significantly). She probably will survive it, but nothing
absolutely nothing will get done afterwords.

That seems to be the dream of the HRC supporters.
