2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHey, you BoBs out there! Answer a question for me!
Given the fact that Trump & the Republicans are the avowed enemy of Democrats, liberals & liberalism, progressives & progressivism, and peace, freedom, equality & liberty in general...
And given the fact that Trump & the Republicans have spent decades and millions of dollars to suppress voters casting ballots in favor of those things...
And given that it's your stated desire to voluntarily do precisely that: suppress your own vote in support of those things...
Why are you helping these very same enemies, Trump & the Republicans?

Votes matter. She beat Bernie and she has a better chance of beating Trump than unvetted Bernie Sanders.

A progressive wouldn't cut off his/her nose to spite his/her face and enable a Trump presidency

(20,176 posts)because Hillary is as much of progressive as Trump is. Not a fucking iota.
The only progressive choice is to oppose both candidates working to destroy the gains of progressives.

So who will REALLY be responsible for electing Trump? The Corrupt Clintons and their SUPPORTERS.

(20,176 posts)That makes him culpable for it. Donald's actions and positions are a direct and not-unforeseen consequence of Bill's actions...damned right he's responsible for them. Same as if he'd done them himself.

(2,262 posts)It's sort of like Iraq and North Korea. The USA had issues with Iraq so we invaded. The USA has issues with North Korea but we have no desire to engage them. See how it's done?
I don't like helping enemies. That's why I won't vote for him.

"Why are you helping these very same enemies, Trump & the Republicans?"
Because we have crap for Democrats across the board, and it took an Independent
to put some juice into a hideous election cycle. Thanks for running the best you had.
Not.

(20,176 posts)The problem with the question you posed is that is presupposes something that is untrue by creating a dichotomy that isn't there...just because Donald Trump is the avowed enemy of Democrats, liberals & liberalism, progressives & progressivism, and peace, freedom, equality & liberty in general...doesn't mean that Hillary Clinton isn't also the enemy of Democratic ideals, liberals & liberalism, progressives & progressivism, and peace, freedom, equality & liberty in general.
I can't support Clinton with any fervor because Hillary is every bit as much of an enemy as Donald J. Trump. It's also why I cannot consider her supporters to be real Democrats...if they were, they would not support Hillary.

Dems to Win
(2,161 posts)What we are seeing is Reality TV, directed by Bill Clinton, who talked with Donald Trump prior to Trump's entering the race and reportedly encouraged him to get into it. Bill and Donny are working together to elect Hillary.
If Hillary makes it through the convention and we really do have a Trump-Clinton race, I'm going to try to develop new hobbies and give up on following presidential politics. I hate reality TV, and I'm convinced that's all a Clinton-Trump race will be -- a reality TV show that ends with Hillary in the White House.
The more outrageous Trump is, the more he pushes people, who 2 years ago would have said they would NEVER vote for Hillary, into voting for her in the fall. It's the only way she can plausibly win, so that's the theater show Bill and Donald are producing.
I'm also convinced that the powers that rig the voting machines will do so on Hillary's behalf. She's the Establishment choice, by far. She's the one who will keep the Military Industrial Complex and Wall Street rolling along as usual, lining the pockets of the rich and powerful. The outcome is not in doubt.
This is not a show I consider to be worth watching.

(3,447 posts)Look at your opening line. "Given the fact that Trump & Republicans are the avowed (snip for brevity, not to avoid content)..."
The assumption is that we live in a dual world (we don't) and that if one group (Republicans/Trump) is against those things, then the other must be for it. However, a casual perusal of economic policy over the last, oh, say, 30 years shows otherwise.
As such, your entire premise is faulty from the opening line and, following the law of computing, garbage in garbage out. To vote would be to help our enemies, enemy defined as those who fight against liberals, liberalism, peace, freedom, equality, and liberty -- ie, anyone involved with the Establishment.
Also, it helps that many of us live in states that won't even remotely be competitive, like myself.
So there. I hope that answered your honestly-asked, heartfelt question, as I'm sure no one on DU would simply try to troll people to attempt to get them kicked out. That would be something very Trump-worthy, after all.
